Some people are asking "what's wrong with lamb?". The answer is that it requires, especially in the uplands, a vast amount of land to produce a small amount of meat. This is land that would otherwise support rich wildlife habitat - much of it temperate rainforest.

@GeorgeMonbiot Rainforest in the Berwyn mountains????? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ you really have lost the plot!

@GeorgeMonbiot Not to mention sheep are great at deforestation the prevention of reforestation.

@GeorgeMonbiot I’ve told you time and time again @GeorgeMonbiot the uplands are not primarily used to directly produce lamb, or beef, but provide the environment to produce the genetic resource for the national herds and flocks.

@GeorgeMonbiot so what about lowlands, where sheep are a valuable part of mixed grazing with cattle which reduces parasite load, downland is incredibly species rich and has 5000 years of history, sheep eat no input grass and provide good protein, the least input of any farming system

@GeorgeMonbiot Can it all really be due to lamb though? Majority of deforestation happened in Bronzeage didn’t it… did they keep sheep? I agree with rewinding it but suspect it’d be more complicated than just removing sheep

@GeorgeMonbiot We might also add that the World Health Organisation puts lamb as Class 2 (= probable) carcinogen, & that many studies have shown links between red meat consumption & cardiovascular problems, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's & other chronic diseases.

@GeorgeMonbiot You’re hilarious!!! One question for you George... I am totally on board with making massive alterations b/o climate change, if you so want people to listen and get on board why do it spouting such complete and total SHITE???

@GeorgeMonbiot Blah, blah blah--just another socialist telling people how to live their lives. Its private land-what they do with it is their business--but you don't actually believe in property rights, do you?
