‘Chinky’ is surely racist as it mocks a physical attribute. But are ‘Bong’, ‘Ghati’, ‘Gujju’, ‘Mallu’, ‘Maru’, ‘Bhaiyya’, ‘Harry’ (for Biharis), ‘Gulti’ (for the Telugu-speaking), ‘Surd’, ‘Urey’ (for Odiyas), ‘Tam’ etc offensive too? Or should we bear the ribbing with a grin?

@abhijitmajumder Apart from 'chinky', everything can be taken with a pinch of salt unless someone is trying to be deliberately abusive!!

@abhijitmajumder Never knew we are Harry!! Nobody called me that. I kinda like it. Harry for Bihari. 👍👊

@abhijitmajumder I am a mallu n I dont think its offensive..not sure abt others though

@abhijitmajumder Bong Shorty Fatty Aloo Especially woMAN No issues. This seems more important than a Do Not Ressicutate declaration these days! 😄

@abhijitmajumder And what about North Indians being called "Gau mutra drinkers" by some Bengali and south indian supremacists ?

@abhijitmajumder It also depends How ones uses these attributes for example people in punjab, delhi, maha people use the term 'bhaiya', chinky in derogatory sense but terms Mallu and Gujju are used by keralites and gujratis themselves so we shouldn't consider them offensive.

@abhijitmajumder Words are not racist, it is the tone. Speaking with affection, love, respect, dignity makes each word attractive. @BhakkkBhosdike Pranaam to you, your parents, relatives, friends & well wishers

@abhijitmajumder Dhoti is also a derogatory term. Chinky is also a famous pet name, used in Munna bhai MBBS as well.

@abhijitmajumder 'Harry' is new for me!

@abhijitmajumder My best friend was grossly overweight and called herself baby elephant. No one cd get a kick from ribbing her - so no one did! Understand that it is your reaction that encourages the ribbing. The moment you remove the fun they get out of it, you've won - they CAN'T tease you!

@abhijitmajumder ....kalu has been my nick name since childhood , called by elder brother, cousins, driends ....my father was called kalu , by grandmother, uncles and 'kalu baba' by cousins... .....connotation 'kalu' in Bharat is not racial or related to slavery...🤣🤣🤣🤣

@abhijitmajumder Can we not start censoring words please? If someone in our individual circle offends us, by all means, correct and educate them. But NO social mandates! Let us NOT emulate the West in policing words. Political Correctness is NOT helpful, IMHO

@abhijitmajumder Gujjus have accepted the ribbing most sportingly.... Why even have a Hit Movies and Play Series on the name 'Gujjubhai'....

@abhijitmajumder No offense felt being called Gujju , thats just short for Gujarati, yes being called money minded Gujju might be offensive or Maru with Black Money in pocket as my Bengali Maths Teacher used to say always to Marwaris sitting in back bench.

@abhijitmajumder Even Baniya is a racist term, i have seen many people using it to malign trading community!

@abhijitmajumder Hindi Oxford dictionary sardar

@abhijitmajumder the Bongs need to stop introducing themselves as a Bong...this fake elitism of english speaking proficiency is an ongoing colonial hangover where even slang's seem delightful..

@abhijitmajumder It's all about Intention !!! Best example is Ishant-Sammy-Kallu episode . Most importantly , we don't need Racist Policing constantly . Kal koi bolega ki Mc bc kyu bolte ho , against female , Bhai chod , baap chod bolo , Equality . Ye sab faltu ki bakloli hai

@abhijitmajumder Ye kya baat Hui, aise to kal Ko other than name, sab ban ho jayega Koi pune se hai aur 'punekar' bol diya to offensive ?? Bhaiyya,gujju,mallu and names like these aren't derogatory ,used mostly In Friend circle No random guy ever calls someone Directly by those names in public.

@abhijitmajumder Very rightly pointed out ... that holds true for 'kallu', 'gore' 'lambe' naate', 'mote', 'patle' etc ... these r words used since languages were discovered, but context is blown out of proportion and tagged as discrimination .. leads to even arrest thru idiotic penal codes

@abhijitmajumder Harry for Biharis? Never heard of that.

@abhijitmajumder Kuchbi tweet mat karo who said urey is offensive for odias

@abhijitmajumder Are we getting too technical? We as a society are getting too uptight

@abhijitmajumder Shyam & Ghanshyam also should be banned. @Ram_Guha @sardesairajdeep

@abhijitmajumder I think it's fine, people should know to take it in right sense.

@abhijitmajumder Why “Gulti” for Telugu people?

@abhijitmajumder Arava for tamil

@abhijitmajumder I’m pretty sure the words were coined to address ppl back in the days. The misuse became an abuse. Imagine the amount of words one will have to censor .btw humans will not take much time to form new corrupt words. Because it was never words.. it’s the intention, tone & agenda !

@abhijitmajumder Mero a common among Bengalis

@abhijitmajumder When we say these words, we might be associating a person to a group or may be making fun of them. But we don't think of those people as racially inferior to us. That's what the whities do in the western world.

@abhijitmajumder You should come to the Northeast, Dada. Here, the most offensive slangs are reserved for Bengalis and other mainlanders.

@abhijitmajumder If u call white man Gora, he doesn't take offence. But if call Black man Kalu, he takes offence. Why??

@abhijitmajumder @kr_shaurabh How is chinki racist. I had school senior named 'Chinky Puri'

@abhijitmajumder Personally i don't have an issue
