Myth of Yajñavalkya Eating Beef Shatpath Brahman 3.1.2.21 Is often mistranslated to show that Yajñavalkya ate Beef, However this is wrong translation, lets see how.

It starts with "अथ एनं शालां प्रपादयति" It is talking about a Yajña, After shaving and Bathing the person enters the place where Yajña will happen. Now to perform this Yajña a person needs to do fasting and he can only eat Fruits, Not Products taken from Cow - Milk etc ....

Or Grains Acharya Sayana in his commentary writes this "धेनोः क्षीरादिकम्, अनडुहः सम्बन्धि कर्षणसाध्यमित्यर्थ नाश्नीयात्"

So they are talking about a Yajña and fasting before it, also what to eat and what not to eat for this Yajña. Yajñavalkya Says अश्नामि एव अहम् अंसलं चेद् भवति Here amsal is mistranslated as Soft or tender, this is wrong

Ashtadhyayi has a Sutra वत्सांसाभ्यां कामबले (5.2.18) For meaning of "Power" लच् Suffix is added to अंस अंस + लच् = अंसलः meaning Powerful

Acharya Sayana said यस्मादुभयाशने शरीरम् "अंसलं भवति" Eating these both Body will become powerful.

So if while fasting, Body is becoming weak then a person can eat these (Milk products and grains) Amsal do not mean Tender meat as Mistranslated Yajñavalkya DID NOT eat Beef at all
