Sometime after Flower Field is explored, the Guild learns of a locale that they haven't yet explored. This locale is located high up in the mountains, and a large portion of it is surrounded by a bamboo forest.
A hunter is sent in to investigate the land, but the Guild soon loses contact with him. The Guild fears that the hunter might've been attacked by some kind of unidentified monster, but, thankfully, he eventually returns to Mezeporta to report his findings.
While investigating the locale, he reports that it was strangely quiet there and describes that it felt like something was being protected by the bamboo forest. When he started exploring the bamboo forest, he was suddenly attacked by a monster.
There are legends around that region about an elder dragon living in the bamboo forest. Long ago, it is said that a forgotten village in the mountains coexisted with this elder dragon.
The elder dragon had lived in peace with that village for hundreds of years, not bothering the inhabitants a single time (Most of the time, it kept to itself), but that soon changed...
The people in that village were planning to take and use the powers of that elder dragon for themselves, and they were able to successfully take some of the elder dragon's powers and transfer it to a little girl. While they were successful, their ignorance came at a cost.
Because the elder dragon was betrayed by those humans, it destroyed their village and drove them all out of the bamboo forest. This monster doesn't tolerate humans now and will attack any it encounters on sight.
The little girl (The Diva - 歌姫/Songstress) that gained some of the elder dragon's powers was separated from her family during the destruction and was taken in by wild Felyne. She eventually became a singer with unique powers. Her songs empower many hunters in Mezeporta.
She also later reunites with her sister (Leila - レイラ) in Mezeporta as well.
The elder dragon that brought destruction to the old village is known to the locals as Inagami, the Old Elegant Dragon.
Thought to be a close relative of Kirin by some (Conceptually, it was a predatory Kirin), Inagami is an elder dragon that's very closely linked to its environment. Known to only inhabit the Bamboo Forest, this elder dragon has been around for a long time.
From Inagami living in the Bamboo Forest for hundreds of years, its body has changed accordingly to match its environment. Many parts of Inagami's body, especially its horns and tail, greatly resemble bamboo, giving it the regal appearance of an old wise king.
Inagami is predatory in nature, and it uses its bamboo-shaped tail as a lure to attract prey. Covering most of Inagami's body is hard scales that protect it from powerful attacks, and under its scales is smooth skin that is surprisingly strong.
Inagami has gorgeous fur covering large portions of its body as well. Seemingly in ancient times, Inagami once had wings, but it lost those appendages over time. Only remnants of its wings remain, and fur now covers those forgotten limbs.
To help it capture prey, Inagami uses its sharp claws to tear into flesh. Its claws are strong enough to leave deep gashes in the ground.
As mentioned above, Inagami has a strong connection with its environment compared to other elder dragons. While it has extraordinary abilities like others in its class, it'll often utilize its environment to its advantage without using its unique powers.
Inagami has been seen using all sorts of things in its environment to its advantage in combat. Besides using its immense strength, Inagami will often attack enemies with pieces of bamboo.
A hunter can stun Inagami if they time their attacks correctly.
Inagami's most fascinating ability is the fact that it can rapidly grow bamboo in mere seconds. Inagami has strange body fluids flowing throughout its body, and these fluids seem to enrich the bamboo rhizomes and cause them to grow at an accelerated rate.
It's capable of firing the fluids out of its mouth, and it can secrete these fluids from various parts of its body. Bamboo will pop up around it when it sticks its tail in the ground, impaling nearby enemies. It can also harden these fluids to create makeshift wings for gliding.
When Inagami sustains major injuries in battle, it'll secrete body fluids from its body to close up its wounds and harden parts of its body (Head, legs, tail). Not only does it increases its defense against attacks, but it also makes its attacks heavier.
While the hardened fluids provide Inagami better defense and make its attacks stronger, it also reduces its speed and prevents it from utilizing some of its attacks. Inagami can't rapidly grow the bamboo around it while its fluids are in this state.
If too many of its body parts are covered in these fluids, it'll forcibly break all pieces of it off its body and release a sleep gas from its body before falling to the ground out of sheer pain. If hunters can avoid its sleep gas, they can deal some serious damage to Inagami.
Materials that use Inagami's skin will last a long time once processed. Inagami's tendons have excellent elasticity, and each fiber has incredible strength. The tissue in its bones is a difficult material to work with.
