i know i tweeted about this before … like ages ago. but i can’t stop thinking about the scene in the secret history where judy is telling richard about henry and the twins getting into a fight and how that practically foreshadows the entire book

ok so here’s the passage for reference so that we’re all green haha

first - camilla is the one who starts this fight, she is the the one who slams into judy and says whatever rude thing she says. however by the end of it, camilla has gotten away scot-free and is never mentioned again. all of the attention is now on henry and charles.

get it? camilla starts shit and gets away with it scot-free. ie, that camilla plans the murder, gets away without any detection and leaves the dealing with the police and all of the attention to henry and charles.

now charles’s turn - up until this point in the book, charles is painted as this sweet, all american boy. but here, charles becomes very aggressive when camilla is threatened.

this shows us that charles is possessive over camilla and foreshadows his downfall and complete personality change when his relationship with her is threatened in book 2.

and finally henry. henry is at first, just stood there while charles causes the trouble himself, until he snaps and when he does snap - he becomes EXTREMELY violent and it is practically impossible to get him to stop.

“six guys couldn’t pull him off” is significant i think - in the same way six guys (the greek class and julian) can’t stop henry from doing whatever he wants to do throughout the book.

and my favourite bit is when judy says that you would think that those “sissy guys in suits and ties” wouldn’t have done that - that sounds a lot like “these smart rich kids couldn’t have possibly done anything to that missing boy”, right?

@tinypatient i see charles’ and henry’s foreshadowing in this scene but camilla’s role, at least for me, was harder to identify throughout the entire book. in this way, she kinda manipulates both charles’s and henry’s obsession with her to take away responsibility for their murders ?

@highwvrlvck yes! i’ve talked about this before but i think camilla takes advantage of her position as the only woman to do this and manipulates richard into seeing her as nothing more than the mysterious manic pixie dream girl that he constantly paints her as!

@tinypatient OH MY FUCKING GOD????? YOUR BRAIN AMAZES ME, THIS IS SO AAAAAAA I WILL SCREAM, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS, THANK YOU
