功过格 Ledger of Merits and Demerits This book is the a recent iteration of an ancient Chinese genre: ledgers wherein the user may record their meritorious and unmeritorious actions, so that they may reflect on them. This book has 3 such tables The first is based on the 弟子规
The second is based on the Ten Meritorious Actions十善 of Buddhism. The last (shown below) is based on the Taishang ganying pian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... This is much longer and contains a greater list of sins.
How this works can be best explained using the 10 meritorious deeds grid. Each grid contains 8 columns, one for each day of the week & the 8th for a total There are 10 good actions, viz not killing, not stealing, not lying (etc) So,if you did not kill any living creature...
on Monday, then you'd fill in the appropriate box.The final column contains the total. there's also a space for you to fill in your name and date.
In the case of the Dizi Gui section, the entire text of the Dizi gui https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... is reproduced in the leftmost col. Eg the 1st line reads "When parents call, answer at once".presumably if your parents called & you and did answer at once, then you can fill in the grid
@edwardW2 This is a great idea. Benjamin Franklin had a much simpler version.
