Of all the meeting platforms we've used over the last 2 years, Zoom is the one I love most. Most of us think we know Zoom inside out. But we don't. Here are 7 Zoom hacks you probably haven't heard of, but you'll be glad you now know. 🧵👇

#1: Want to share something from your iPhone? Sometimes we have a a webpage, or a document on our phone not our computer. Click: • Share screen • iPhone/iPad via AirPlay • Follow the instructions to mirror screen Now you can share your mobile screen with the audience.

#2: Need to turn off your camera and mic quickly? If the doorbell rings and you need to duck out, rather than fumbling with the mouse...use shortcuts. Camera: • Cmd + Shft + V (Mac) • Alt + V (Windows) Mic: • Cmd + Shft + A (Mac) • Alt + A (Windows) Quick and easy.

#3: Sitting in a dingy space for your Zoom meeting? Sometimes the place we're in is too dark + we don't have time to fix it. Zoom has an 'adjust for low light' option. Click: • Video settings • Adjust for low light • Manually adjust A simple way to improve poor lighting.

#4: Trying to highlight one area of your screen? Use the annotate cursor options to catch attention: • Spotlight the cursor • Show an arrow • Use the vanishing pen All options to help focus your audience's eye.

#5: Want to show slides but maintain the connection with the audience? We need to be able to see each other to build connection with our audience. Click: • Share screen • Advanced • Slides as virtual background Adjust your position + size on screen in front of your slides.

#6: Didn't quite catch what was said? Connection problems, access issues, + distraction all mean we sometimes miss things. Add live captions and a transcript: • Turn on in Zoom desktop Settings>In-meeting Advanced • Copy API token + connect I use @otter_ai live notes.

#7: Need to drown out the neighbours? When there's building work going on in your street. it can be distracting for everyone else in your meeting. Zoom has an option to suppress background noise. • Audio setting • Suppress background noise • Adjust to the level needed

TL;DR 7 Zoom hacks you need to know: • #1 Share your iPhone screen • #2 Use shortcuts for quick on/off • #3 Adjust simply for poor lighting • #4 Spotlight the mouse • #5 Use PowerPoint as a virtual background • #6 Have captions • #7 Suppress background noise

@TessaRDavis My best tip is hiding my self view because I find it distracting. on PC right-click on your video of yourself and remove the self view… SO good for your focus if you are self-conscious.

@TessaRDavis Great tips. How do I see the presenter view notes in PowerPoint but hide them from the audience?

@TessaRDavis please do a list like this for break rooms🙏

@TessaRDavis Do you love most that the CCP gets a copy of all the data that is stored within Zoom servers? They have a server based in China and it mirrors all the other servers. By Chinese law, they have a CCP member with access to any data on the site.

@TessaRDavis @readwise save thread zoomies

@TessaRDavis I just want a permanent cat filter. That is the greatest innovation in video conferencing I’ve seen.

@TessaRDavis @DissanaikeMD Very useful, thanks for sharing! 🙏

@TessaRDavis Thank you for sharing this. For me it was also useful to share presenter view screen of ppt, and via Zoom to share screen, but adjusted for size of peesentation/slides, so that audience couldn't see my notes.

@TessaRDavis @srivaidyanathan Great tips to level ⬆️ zoom - esp like the self-camera floating on slides as virtual background! check them out 🤩@nkagetsu @bhargp @TLHM_MD @hochhegger @farouk_dako @RyanBPetersonMD

@TessaRDavis This is a really useful set of tips! I especially like the one about slides as virtual background and will experiment with it later today.
