US hits an awful milestone: 300 deaths per 100,000 due to COVID, meaning that 0.3% of the US population has died of COVID. One in 331 Americans have died due to COVID.

In 25 months (first significant death rate occurred in March 2020), this works out to 159 per 100,000 per year. All cancers in the US claimed 188 per 100,000 Americans per year. COVID has essentially doubled the death rate of all cancer in the US.

oh, and pre-emptively, for the JAQers. no, covid didn't simply kill people who were going to "die of cancer anyway" COVID deaths caused EXCESS mortality.

alt-text for the two graphs: 1st graph is a linear graph showing the rise of covid deaths from march until now, depressingly consistent :( 2nd graph showing that cancer deaths continued in 2020 (187 per 100k), not being "replaced" by covid deaths.

and to be clear, the rate of covid deaths per year since covid started is 159 per 100k per year. The rate of cancer deaths per year is 188 per 100k per year. Adding covid to 2020 had an effect on death AS IF ANOTHER WAVE OF CANCER HAD BEEN ADDED.
