Not getting great results with cold email? Here are 5 mistakes you're probably making and how to fix them: 1. Your email copy is WAY too long. Keep your emails to 50 words max... You're going to lose prospects if they can't read the entire email in 3-5 seconds
2. Your targeting is too broad. Instead of targeting any eCom brand, get really granular... Pick a niche, filter for certain roles, even pick a specific location. This way you can get really personalized with your messaging:
"Was doing a search for fastest growing brands in Texas and came across COMPANYs website, keep up the great work!" "As the CMO of a fast growing air freshener brand, I imagine you're looking for more ways to retain your customers" "My friends keep raving about your supplements"
3. You're focusing too much on yourself. Your emails should have a 2:1 "You" to "I" ratio... Meaning you should mention the prospect 2x as much as you mention yourself. Easiest way to do this: Change "I would love to" to "Would you be open to?" "Are you interested in?"
4. You're blending in with the crowd. If you're targeting industries like eCom, SaaS or agencies, you're going up against a LOT of competition. Easiest way to stick out is with extra personalization (like I mentioned in the 2nd point), or by coming up with unique angles.
Instead of pitching paid ads, pitch something like - Acquiring X% more customers - Increased brand awareness - Collecting X% more emails - X% more sales/traffic - Going viral
5. Your sequence doesn't flow together. If you offer 3 different services, DO NOT pitch all 3 of them in your cold email campaign. If you pitch email marketing in email 1, then pivot to TikTok in email 2, and wrap up with a case study on UGC, You're going to confuse prospects..
And ruin your chances at getting a reply from them. To avoid this, make sure your sequence flows together. Email 1: Pitch a benefit Email 2: Elaborate by stating what you do, include a case study/guarantee, and pitch a call Email 3: Ask if they'd like to see a free resource
There are a lot of small factors that can make or break a cold email campaign... And if you don't know what you're looking for, it can be hard to get a campaign back on track. These are the 5 most common mistakes I see, so hopefully one of these helped you!
