So what I'm hearing is that a YouTuber James Somerton said that a platform he wasn't invited to has no queer content & when queer creators said that was erasure of their work, he repeatedly harassed & called the cops on *checks notes* a trans woman? Is this worth investigating?
I've been told there are 4-5 instances of plagiarism where he lifted extended parts of other videos or essays wholesale. I dunno why, but I've been thinking a lot about creators taking credit for others' work for personal recognition and money.
It's too bad he doesn't have any world records I can inquire about.
I'm so fascinated that only James Somerton fans seem to be angrily responding to this tweet. Are his fans and nobody else name searching him? Mutual follows? It's possible most people don't care & the people escalating are those who feel passionately about defending him. 🤷‍♀️
Ah damn, I wasn't that invested in this, but it seems like people could benefit from the evidence. I'm worried it would incite even more harassment than a short tweet thread w/o tagging people, but I could aggregate receipts I've been sent as a result of this mild pile-on?
Re: verifiable evidence of the claims of plagiarism—I knew about these examples already, but you can find some of the (several) claims so far with a quick Google search and reading the copied paragraphs in the script. There's more I wasn't able to grab right now, if you want.
@lolkat It’s my understanding that all of these claims of plagiarism have been resolved. Is that not the case? Am I missing something?
@rw_pw Oh could you link to them? I definitely want to do due diligence and I haven't yet been able to find any verifiable evidence around it. I really appreciate it.
