After kdj is old enough the 'training period' is over and the duke pushes for an engagement between his son and the crown prince, threatening kdj to make the relationship work 'or else'. Kdj has no intention to, at this point not giving a fuck whether he lives or dies.

The royal family was known to have blood blessed by gods and mysterious powers. People saw them as something closer to deities or even monsters rather than human beings. So when rumors spread about the villainous son of the duke being engaged and going to live in the castle,

everyone thinks it's just a matter of time until the royals kill him. Everyone including kdj. (What they don't know though is that one of the special powers inherited by royals is mind reading - thus their strange behaviour and unexplainable decision-making from time to time)

So the first time kdj has dinner with his fiance yjh and his cousin hsy, (yma has been excused from this meal), they are expecting kdj's thoughts to be about getting on their good side, treason, or stuff like that. They don't expect what kdj is actually thinking about.

[Man, the atmosphere is scary as fuck. Are they always like this?] [...Though that guy is a total hottie. Like a protagonist.] Hsy's elegant movements waver, her hands slightly trembling in restrained laughter. Yjh is frozen with his eyes narrowed, looking constipated.

While the first thoughts were certainly weird, they still expect something important to come up. And yet the next ones are about kdj plotting his own death, rather than theirs. [By the looks of it, they might get rid of me sooner than I expected.

That guy looks like the type to get angered easily. Should I just say something rude and be over with it?] Yjh chokes on his drink while hsy's fork stops mid-air. Kdj asks him if he's ok to which yjh (embarassed) replies that he's fine in an annoyed tone before looking away.

[Well of course he is. By his looks alone he could be the protagonist of any novel; there's no way someone like that could die from choking on his wine.] There is a pause in his thoughts, and then... [Can I choke on my wine?] Hsy subtly moves kdj's cup further away from him.

"Ahm. Let's start, shall we?" She says, stopping kdj's train of thoughs and waving to the servants to bring the food. Then kdj takes a bite and goes like [Wow, food can be this good? To think I can eat something like this before I die, how lucky.]

Long story short, it isn't hard to figure out that he was abused. From then on hsy makes kdj come to every mealtime bc she's lowkey worried he'll hurt himself, and it's also funny to hear what he thinks about yjh, as well as yjh's reactions to it.

Since he's able to hear kdj's honest words and not whatever lies come from his mouth, it also doesn't take long for yjh to fall for him and start courting him. Meanwhile kdj is still dense and holding hands with death, so he always thinks what yjh does is an attempt to kill him.

Giving him flowers? [Maybe they're poisonous.] But then the flowers turn out to be normal, albeit very rare, so kdj thinks yjh doesn't know much about plants. He decides to help him out and points some out in a book.

"Look, you majesty. Did you know this one is one of the most toxic flowers in our kingdom?" yjh, annoyed: "ok..." Gifting him jewelry? Kdj knows how precious they are and won during a big auction, so he thinks yjh wants to turn the noble ladies against him.

But then no one tries to hurt or even insult him...Kdj thinks they're too scared to act against the crown prince's fiance, and that yjh's plan has failed again. (he's right, yjh failed once more.) Everyone except kdj starts noticing that yjh is trying to court him.

Taking him out to a fancy dinner date? Kdj is sure that the food is poisoned, and this time there shouldn't be any way to escape death. He smiles, thanking yjh. Yjh freezes at the sight, the first time he ever saw kdj look happy. His pink lips curved upwards in a small smile,

eyes crinkled to the edges just the slightest. He looks so pretty that- No wait, the fool is making that expression just because he thinks he'll die. Yjh suddenly feels like strangling him, but that would only fulfill the rat's wish.

He must- /will/ make sure that kdj understands he's being loved even if it's the last thing he does. ...maybe yjh should start by murdering the duke as a wedding gift.

@sp_simp this just makes me think that when yjh kills the duke kdj will be like, "oh it's my turn next" cue yjh having to papapa to get anything in kdj's head 😔 and even after papapa kdj still won't get it until a ring slips on or smthn work hard yjh! 😔✊

@idlemurmurs imagine if yjh returns from killing the duke only to find kdj waiting for him at the edge of his bed and goes like "it's my turn now?" and for a second yjh thinks kdj understood what he feels (and reciprocates) until he reads his mind and sees it's still about dying...

@sp_simp Imagine Kdj getting pregnant & still thinking:"I've heard that the death rate in childbirth is high,I feel bad for the baby but i know that Yjh will rebuild his life easily" Meanwhile Yjh is already summoning every dr in the kingdom to assure the highest survival rate for both

@sp_simp PLS YJH AND HSY’S FIRST IMPRESSION OF KDJ IS JUST OF HIM BEING A SILLY, SAD, SELF-DEPRECATING MAN WITH A TRAGIC UPBRINGING 😭😭 They definitely took it upon themselves to help take care of him, especially yjh with his incessant courting, and actually make him happy 😩😩💖❤️
