If you follow me, you know I'm big on testing thumbnails on FB ads, and recently I've got a ton of DMs asking about how I use my "Thumbnail FB ads Theory" to pick thumbnails and maximize chances of finding winning ads Here's the full step-by-step breakdown:
1. I always test at least 2-3 thumbnails per creative 2. I always, and I mean always select the thumbnail manually 3. If I have a hook that's communicating the angle, then I select that initial frame from the video - that's 1st variation > I want the hook and thumbnail aligned
4. Then I have 1 additional thumbnail from the video > I always try to find some frame that I think could be a good performer (close-up of a product, person's face, something weird, something eye-catching...)
5. I often test 1 additional custom thumbnail > that's usually either: a) a winning thumbnail style (from previous winners) b) a custom-made image that serves only as a thumbnail (e.g. when I find some static that's working well, I try it as a thumbnail as well)
If I see that none of the thumbnail styles is working with the video, then I can definitely declare a video as a bad one Considering a massive role of a thumbnail in the potential success of a creative, this is so far a bulletproof process

@IstvanicMarin I need to try this as well. But what's the best way to test? Is there a way to create a DCT for thumbnails or do you need to create separate ads for each?
@dimitriecom if you want to use in DCT, then you need to upload the same video 3 times and choose different TH I just create 1 ad set, 3 same ads, just 3 different thumbnails selected in each
@IstvanicMarin Thank you for sharing this. Gonna start implementing your advice for sure.
@IstvanicMarin This was so mind-blowing for me! Another piece for testing!
@IstvanicMarin Feels like FB is punishing me if i use custom thumbnails. If i use frames, it always works much better.
@UDoggos didn't experience that so far but if frame from the video works best, stick to it
