Moving to Estonia with a Startup Visa A thread 🧵 If you’re a startup founder or employee who wouldn’t like to waste another 4 years building in an agbado republic, then Estonia 🇪🇪 might be the best place for you. Walk with me
/ Since 2017 when this program began, 5454 temporal resident permits and visas have been issued. Last year (2022), 109 visas were issued to founders with 2 out of 5 applicants getting approved. This means that this update hasn’t casted. You have a high chance of success.
/ Estonia startups are performing very well. Their visa program startups had made a €84M in revenue for 2022, representing a 125% increase compared to 2021! The biggest revenue was generated by Glia, Vertigo Games and Atomic Wallet. Money no be problem 😅
/ The Estonia startup visa covers the following people: 1. The founder 2. His family 3. Employees The visa is given to the founders, who can invite their employees or family members to Estonia. Over 4000 people have moved to Estonia in the last 5 years with this
/ The Startup Visa lasts for 18 months. You first get a 1 year entrepreneurship visa, that you can extend for 6 months. If you still want to stay, you can get a temporal residence permit for 5 years, and then get a permanent residency for another 5 years.
/ The visa is a Schengen visa, which means you can move around Europe with it. Note however that the entrepreneurship visa is a national visa, which means you can visit other European countries for no more than 90 days per country. It’s a great deal if you ask me
/ Before we go to the requirements, I’d also explain this: The aim of this visa is to open a company in Estonia and pay taxes. It’s not to go and find oyibo wife or do care job. There is no specific timeframe to open the company there, but it’s advised you do it once you get
/ So here are the visa requirements: 1. You must have a scalable, innovative and tech based startup 2. You must get approval from the Startup Committee 3. Have proof of funds (€800 monthly) for the time you want to stay in Estonia. Take this test https://startupestonia.ee/visa...
/ You have 2 options: 1. If you don't yet have an Estonian company, you can apply for a long-term startup visa (12 months) or a short-term visa (3 months) 2. If you've already set up an Estonian company, you can apply for either a startup visa (both short-term or long-term)
/ How to Apply for a Startup Visa? 1. Fill out the Startup Committee approval form. Fill it the way you’d fill a YC application. https://startupincluder.com/#/... 2. Await for a qualification letter from them. This takes 10 working days. 3. Apply for the visa/permit at the embassy
/ List of docs needed: 1. Valid International Passport 2. Confirmation letter from the Startup Committee regarding qualification as a startup, or confirmation regarding participation in a qualified accelerator program 3. A color photo sized 35 x 45 mm 4. A document
/ 5. Insurance cover of €30k (you can buy a 20k Naira plan that gives you this cover). 6. Proof of funds 7. Accommodation plans 8. Any information that supports your intention to leave the Schengen area before the expiry of the visa, such as return flight tickets
/ That said and done, let’s talk about the Estonian embassy. There’s no Estonian embassy in Nigeria, so you’d have to go to either: 1. Egypt 2. India I think you can also apply South Africa but that’s up not confirmed. Many people use India as it’s faster.
/ So, that’s all you need to know about the Estonia Startup Visa program. You can start applying today. Subscribe our email newsletter today to learn more https://zeenah.substack.com
