Very old jd isekai AU that was supposed to be multi chap fic now turned thread because I don't know when I'll have time to actually write the whole thing. kdj gets isekai'd in his favorite webnovel, right at the epilogue scene when yjh, the protagonist, dies.
Having lost all his companions and being seen as a villain by everyone, including the readers who either dropped or kept reading just to post rage comments towards the story, the protagonist finally accomplished his purpose.
In the final battle, yjh had been betrayed by his own side but still managed to defeat the traitors, followed by all the original enemies, showing an unimaginable level of strength until there was no one left to witness it. Although it ended costing him his life.
Right after reading it on the screen of his phone, kdj woke up in the middle of that same dead battlefield, only to see it with his own eyes. It didn't take long to recognize it for what it was, even worse than he imagined while reading.
The fishy smell of blood and other fluids released by the corpses, the bodies littered everywhere until you couldn't see the ground, and a single person standing in the middle of it, where not even the crows that rejoiced at the feast would approach.
Someone who became a monster for a righteous purpose, a protagonist who became the 'villain' of his own story. No one had been able to kill him, but the countless wounds accumulated during this battle were his doom. In the novel he died alone, yet there kdj was.
Seeing the undefeated figure stagger, kdj hurried to support the man without thinking about the ridiculous situation he was in. "Yjh, you sunfish. Wake up." The man stirred in his hold, just barely. Kdj saw his once black eyes peering at him, now gray and unable to see
who was right in front of him. His arm twitched, but refused to listen any more than that one sluggish movement. If he was his original self, kdj would've already been cut in half. But this wasn't the strong protagonist he knew. The stubborn guy who refused contracts from
Constellations who so many people worshipped. The guy who swore to avenge his little sister, nor the one who lost all his allies one by one. He wasn't the overpowered protagonist who fought against the world and ruthlessly killed all his enemies,
without ever showing the slightest hint of weakness, gaining the reputation of a real monster. The protagonist kdj lived his whole life reading about had now reached his ending.
'No.. nonono' It couldn't be real. It had to be a nightmare. If something like entering a novel was real, kdj should've been brought to its beginning, not at the the end, when it's too late to change anything.
"hold on you bastard. you'll be fine, there's definitely a way to fix you, so hold on." There had to be. Why else would he be there? There had to be some way to fix everything. [^nukuonu ◾️◾️!nterf!3d M!th th3 ◾️◾️] ['st!gw@ r3gress!0u !s @(t!v@t3d!]
After hearing an unknown voice speak directly into his mind, a terrible headache made kdj feel like someone repeatedly smashed his skull with a hammer. A blinding golden light enveloped them, making kdj instinctively hold yjh closer to himself. Then everything went black.
. . . [integrating singularity in main worldline] [assigning a suited role] [assimilation complete - 'Constellation'] [your current constellation modifier is '???'] . . .
..... There was a certain Temple in the Capital. Unlike many others, this one was by far the biggest and most glamorous, used for main events such as the one everyone was currently preparing for. With so many important figures coming and going, no one was paying attention to
the Temple workers, cladded in simple white robes. Especially not the plain looking face of the person who swiped the floors, so no one noticed kdj raising his head from time to time to glance at the newly arrived guests, recognizing the faces and names of each important one.
A week passed since kdj first woke up in the middle of the battlefield, and another week passed since he turned back time (something he only later understood). After waking up that second time, kdj found out a few things. One. A random priest found him passed out
and brought him to the infirmary with the other injured or sickly people, confusing him with one of them. Two. Everything was indeed not a dream but reality, and somehow time had been rewinded to before the main story actually started.
Three. Kdj was receiving indirect messages from a System, explaining some of the situation. Because he was an outside factor, the System assigned him the best role It saw him fit for - which apparently was a Constellation.
In just one moment, kdj became one of the beings the protagonist despised the most. Because of it though, he'd been able to rewind time. Or rather, because his existence itself was an error in the System, kdj could 'edit' the world between some degrees.
It wasn't clear how his abilities worked since the System itself couldn't completely read his soul, but from making a flower bloom to a stone disappearing into thin air, he could influence things. The backlash it had over his own body wasn't pretty though.
It was weird to say the least. The entire situation aside, kdj wasn't sure why he became a Constellation. In the original story, they were one of the biggest plot mysteries but their existence was explained in the latter half of the novel.
They were important figures, protagonists so to say, from different worldlines. On short, as long as their achievements were remarkable enough, they had a chance to become a Constellation of this world. They were supposted to help and advice people, but beginning with the
damn constellations of Olympus, more and more of them began dictating too much over how things worked. This world had no concept of Gods and Goddesses, but the way humans started worshipping the Constellations became something similar, if not more. It was almost slavery.
The story started with the Succession Ceremony, where each contestant is supposed to receive the support of a Constellation. That's when yjh refuses to swear a loyalty oath, and he instantly gains enemies from every side. ...And now kdj was one of the said enemies.
To make it worse, the System kindly let him know that thanks to him rewinding time before his existence had even been detected, an error occured and yjh retained all his memories. An indirect message asked if he wanted to use his power to fix that, however kdj refused.
It was a good thing that yjh remembered what had happened so that he would not repeat the same mistakes and trust people who would betray him. Although that meant his hate for Constellations was already bigger than in the original story, it would be fine as long as kdj
lent him aid from the distance. All he had to do was make sure yjh didn't know what he was so that kdj's head remained on his shoulders. Kdj looked down from the second floor of the temple, to where the ceremony was undergoing.
The Succession Ceremony was this world's fight for the throne. Anyone could participate in theory, but mostly only those with royal blood did, since they already had the advantage of having most connections. Yjh, the illegitimate son of a duke, wasn't seen as a strong opponent.
Of course, even the weakest rival could become the most dangerous as long as they received the support of a strong Constellation, but that too wasn't the case with the protagonist. The reason why yjh entered the battle for the throne in the first place was because
he saw how messed up the world became because of the Constellations' influence over it, and he wanted to rid the people of the kingdom from the mentality of needing Constellations' help for every little thing. Not many agreed, and his refusal has been seen as an insult
by both humans and Constellations alike. Over the time, his hardships worsened and his personality turned increasingly twisted, all for an aim that was in itself not wrong. As the novel went, yjh's turn came and he stepped into the pond of water.
When a person did this and made the oath, if a Constellation would offer to help them, aura will envelop them and the water would shine a yellow-golden color. The stronger the visual, the stronger the Constellation was said to be.
The protagonist though, he ignored the light of Constellations who wished to make him their follower and turned to the humans watching him, announcing that he will not choose to serve anyone. The lights disappeared, a proof of the anger of insulted higher beings
withdrawing their offers. The whispers started, eyes watching yjh in shock and disapproval. It was a normal reaction, since most of the humans were both in awe and afraid of Constellations, and didn't think that they could be anything more than their humble servants.
Kdj knew that yjh was trying to show them another path, but the way he was doing it was wrong. Or it was better to say, there was a better option now. He used his power, and in an instant the temple darkened, shadows spreading to every corner.
In that moment, the only light came from the pond yjh was standing in, its clear water turning into a mix of blue and purple hues, looking as if it reflected an entire galaxy. It was indisputably the most complex visual the kingdom had ever seen.
'That should be enough.' He thought. Letting everyone see that yjh received a Constellation's blessing even though he served none. That alone would already give a better start to his journey. [Now those damn bastards won't try anything too soon.] kdj mumbled.
There were a few seconds of silence, before the entire temple broke into frantic murmurs. Yjh himself looked shocked. Kdj titled his head. Was the visual made by his blessing creating more reaction than he anticipated? "Was that a threat?" a whisper caught his attention.
"That... didn't this one Constellation show more power than Olympus?" "However there was no name revealed... only this warning." What warning? What were they talking about? A System message appeared in front of kdj's eyes as if to let him know he was stupid.
[ Y ou can o nly com mu nic ate in your true voi ce w hile yo u use yo ur st atu s as a Co nste lla tio n. ] 'Hold on? No one mentioned such a bullshit rule before?' Kdj panicked. Everyone heard him? If it was a Constellation's true voice...
then everyone heard his words directly in their heads? [ S tu pid. ] Somehow, even the System started acting like a person lately. One that mocked him most of the times.
. . . After he regressed, it didn't take long for yjh to assess the situation and decide what he'll do from then on. He'd always been quick to adapt. Traitors, loyal people, those he failed to save and the unthinkable disasters he couldn't prevent in time.
He had a chance to fix everything. (But who was it that gave him this chance?) A hazy memory kept bugging him, like a dream he couldn't remember but didn't wish to forget either. In it, he who always refused to surrender reached his limit, not defeated but also not victorious.
Surrounded by burnt and ripped flesh, an overpowering metallic smell mixed with stool released by the corpses. An unbearable smell he morbidly grew accustomed with over the long years of battles. No one was left to speak, to curse at him or watch him in fear.
All his enemies were gone, but so were the few people who remained loyal until the end. All force gone, a new meaningless purpose acomplished, yjh thought he would succumb to his wounds. Just another body falling into a sea of corpses, indistinguishable from the rest.
Then someone yelled out his name. Not out of fear, nor hatred, but rather worry. There was terror in the voice, not towards him but /for/ him. For the state he was in. Thin arms supported him to stay up, not allowing yjh to fall on his knees. Why?
Wasn't this enemy going to kill him? Without a doubt, it would be an astonishing feat - dealing the last strike, being the person who kills the one no one else managed to defeat. Yjh opened his eyes, looking at the hazy silhouette right in front of him.
About a head shorter, black hair, with a blurry face like the rest of his figure. Yjh could distinguish the eyebrows contorted in great worry and feel the tremble, voice cracking as if that person's whole world was being destroyed in front of him.
Yjh didn't understand the reassuring words the man was trying to fool him with. The lies that everything being alright, and how he'll recover. He couldn't comprehend why those palms were trying so hard to stop his bleeding. But it felt warm.
At that moment he thought that it was a better death than he deserved, considering everything he lost and destroyed with his own hands. Still, his eyes opened once more and yjh was left to wonder who that person was, if he was more than a figment of his imagination.
However he didn't have enough time to uselessly question that. Preparations had to be made, and there was only one week left until the Succession Ceremony started. Whoever that man had been, it'll have to wait until everything else was said and done.
Things didn't happen like in the past. An unknown Constellation interfered, and the public response differed from what yjh knew. But that wasn't the most shocking part. The blessing he received felt the same as the light that enveloped him when he regressed.
In an instant, the identity of that person became even stranger. Constellations didn't show themselves, at least not until tricked to do so, but could that man be one? In his past life, yjh killed most of them, yet was there a star remaining that not only escaped him,
but would also willingly come to him? Why? What did he want in return? And if he'd been willing to help...why didn't he do it sooner, when yjh's companions were alive? Although yjh was grateful for the second chance he received, the unknown variable had him conflicted.
Constellations enjoyed being known and worshipped. Enjoyed their influence over people. But most of all, they enjoyed watching others struggle. There was no certainty that this wasn't the case now too. Even if yjh had an inknling that it wasn't, was blind trust a good choice?
. . . Ever since he woke up in the Temple, kdj decided to become a worker there. He would be given two meals per day and a small room in exchange for cleaning and doing chores around the place. He could also remain unnoticed while listening in to the latest rumors.
In other words, it was perfect for him, who could just use his powers to watch from the distance what was going on the protagonist's side. [ Constellation '???' joined the channel. ] Watching people was like watching y*utube back on Earth. Messages from other Constellations
were flooding in every time his modifier showed up, but he just ignored the chat - they couldn't find out his identity anyway. It was normal, considering that he was an error even the System had a hard time detecting, and that was only because he made a major change to the world.
Life was pretty easy, doing his job, occasionally checking in on yjh and keeping track of other important persons' movements. Everything was going smoothly since everyone hesitated to harm yjh after the 'unknown constellation's' so called threat, which gave
the protagonist time to make his first moves. Once protagonist started something, it was hard to keep up. Especially now when he was moving according to the future he knew. Kdj didn't think anything big would happen any time soon. He was wrong.
Yjh visited the temple. It had been mentioned in the story, that he would rarely do that. The Constellations must've been overjoyed thinking they had the chance to make a contract with him, but the sunfish bastard was actually coming there to strengthen his determination to kill
