I’m thinking about the person who told me that when we were kids their mom would punish them whenever I placed higher than them at an orchestra audition. It didn’t matter that I had been playing longer or that I was more skilled. They should have at least beaten the Black kid.
We had become friends and they told me that they were surprised how much they liked me, because they had hated me for years. And so much of my education was being in spaces with people who believe I had stolen something from them simply by also being there.
Wild to have the literal Supreme Court validate that sentiment lol
