A few months ago, Sega management announced their plan to outsource QA and part of Localization in a move that would significantly impact our workforce. (1/5)
We’ve been fighting back on these terms since then, but today the layoff that will result in the loss of 61 jobs across these two departments was made public. (2/5)
Through our union efforts, we’ve been able to more than double the number of saved jobs, and to offer severance to our temp workers. (3/5)
This, however, does not take away from the fact that many of our coworkers are being laid off in a decision we believe will have a negative impact on the working conditions of those who remain with the company, and in the quality of our future games. (4/5)
In spite of this, we remain committed to fighting for our coworkers, and for the betterment of our industry. In the face of mass layoffs that continue to happen across gaming companies, we stand united and in solidarity with those affected.
@takesAEGIS Sorry if you've responded to this question before but is there anything we can do to help apart from retweeting these posts?
@takesAEGIS Hopefully it's people like localization staff and those pressuring the Japanese parent company to make bad decisions that are getting the boot. I could get behind a little bit of culling there.
@takesAEGIS Funny how Unionized companies are the first to go with huge layoffs. Better to localize in areas where there's no unions and pay the employees what they are worth and not for their entitlement.
@takesAEGIS If it was the localisers then they can get fucked after they admitted that they wanted to change what we love about Japanese games. Feel sorry about everyone else though.
@takesAEGIS You need to find a way to make sega accept unionization unless they want to change the rules on unionization to have both side agree to each other
