Dear Effective Altruists, when a long-time fan of your movement, who donated to your charities (GWWC, GiveWell), tells you you've lost your way, become cultish, and need to extricate yourselves from AI doomerism - you should listen. Donors don't trust you anymore.
@DrTechlash for what it's worth I'm an EA who works on saving lives in Africa stuff and don't think this was ever pretextual or PR. That said, EA's an ideological movement like socialism or liberalism, so different EAs may have different reasons for things
