Over 2h of daily sunlight exposure was associated with reduced total brain volumes. 🧵1/8

These findings are from a study of 27,474 people in @SciReports which aimed to determine whether there are associations between sunlight exposure and brain structural markers. https://www.nature.com/article... 2/8

Sunlight plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health by participating in multiple processes such as skin synthesis of vitamin D and regulating the circadian rhythm. 3/8

However, when exposed to sunlight, more blood flows away from the brain to regulate brain temperature, resulting in a reduced blood flow to the brain, which may lead to brain damage. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.co... 4/8

Within 2h of sunlight exposure, total brain volume, white matter volume, and gray matter volume increased as sunlight exposure time increased. 5/8

However, when daily sunlight exposure approximately exceeded 2h, a decrease in total brain volume, gray matter volume, white matter volume and volumes of certain subcortical regions was observed. 6/8

When stratified by season, as sunlight exposure duration increased, the total brain volume, white matter volume, and gray matter volume decreased more pronounced in the summer compared to winter. 7/8

This study revealed an association between prolonged exposure to natural sunlight and adverse changes in brain structure, providing novel insights into the potential impact of light exposure on human health. 8/8

@NTFabiano They don't control for type of exposure so it's worthless. Midday sun is vastly different from early AM or later afternoon sun. There's more but we can just leave it at that.

@NTFabiano Critics of these kinds of findings don't offer a meaningful explanation of why some countries defy the FLynn Effect.

@NTFabiano I’m not a Doctor, but this seems like complete horse shit. Remember, the more educated you are, the less common sense you possess.

@NTFabiano What is the basis for asserting the structural differences are ā€œadverseā€ eg why couldn’t it be described as ā€œadaptiveā€

@NTFabiano weird flex but ok

@NTFabiano cc @Mark_Sisson because wry commentary

@NTFabiano Come on, exposure to sunlight was self reported, and effect sizes are tiny. Residual confounding could easily explain these results. Much more skepticism is warranted

@NTFabiano Have confounders such as the vocation of individuals been addressed? I imagine jobs that would make it more likely to have more than 2 hours of sunlight exposure include more challenging manual labor job with (1) less daily cognitive stimulation and (2) more stress on the body.

@NTFabiano Just wear a hat. You’ll be fine

@NTFabiano What role the sun played in covid?

@NTFabiano Well I feel vindicated in my hatred for my enemy the Sun! Hanging in the sky mocking us! Hoarding precious helium! And now it turns out it has been shrinking human brains?! Will its evil never end?! ā˜€ļøāœŠ

@NTFabiano It's called dehydration

@NTFabiano This sounds like the effect of water shifts, not cytoreduction.

@NTFabiano @inkblue01 how long until ID_Denmark starts tooting their horn?

@NTFabiano That not only explains how frothing at the mouth RWNJ odd the north of Australia is, but the crazies in the lower US. Also the lower Europeans. They’re basically dumber

@NTFabiano So, is this just a temperature effect and has nothing to do with sunlight? Would 2h in a sauna have the same effect? Do people enjoying steam baths and jacuzzis have lower brain volumes? Anyway, wear a hat when out in the sun.

@NTFabiano Fuck the brain hahaha. I'll leave the genius role for nerds who are wageslaving for big companies lol.

@NTFabiano me with 1 hour 😌

@NTFabiano Association study cuz if so lol

@NTFabiano Very interesting.

@NTFabiano Would love @hubermanlab thoughts šŸ¤”

@NTFabiano dehydration you mong

@NTFabiano dehydration?
