A summary of our family's homeschool approach. 🧵 (a perfect blend of what my wife and I prioritize 😇) 1) Read lots of books (mostly old) 2) Make music 3) Learn "durable" skills 4) Learn how to use technology

1) Read lots of books (mostly old). My wife uses https://www.amblesideonline.or... She compiles the year summary (e.g. my oldest son is in year 9 and this the summary): https://www.amblesideonline.or... Into a weekly chart that can be printed and crossed off by each kid.

2) Make music Music is beauty and warfare. David drove out demons with a harp before he killed Goliath. All our kids play the piano and at least one string instrument.

3) Learn durable skills I'm a general contractor that learned construction from my father (a mechanically inclined engineer). We've remodeled 4 houses as a family, then a bus (where we live now), and now we're building what we hope will be our forever home. We're also

4) Learn how to use technology Technology is capacity for work. Software and media are able to be scaled way easier than labor. My dad has a software company, and I'm glad we always had computers and tech around when growing up. It helped me in the army and even more now

@thespearing #4 is the right place for technology

@bfcarlson Kind of like uncle Argyle in Braveheart… learn to use your mind first 💪🏽

@thespearing Your kids are set for life! Don't forget to include lots of physical movement throughout the day as well. One of the highest ROI habits I have is walking over 10km on average every day.

@EudaemonX Yeah, we got that covered.

@thespearing So he reads a few pages of multiple books at the same time? Is that to keep ‘em more interested in the story? What’s the reasoning there?

@haglwithcasey Same historical context and themes from different points of views and authors.

@thespearing @creation247 Love #1 especially 💪🏻📚

@thespearing With the direction the public school system is going these days, this is a very smart move!

@thespearing Adopt me now.. I’m 45.. 😅

@thespearing @SaveYourSons With the quality of public schools, homeschooling seems superior.
