Map of Pre-indo-european languages in Europe. Including Attested languages and Substrates.
"European Agricultural Substrate" Refers to the Agricultural terms of Non-indo-european origin in most CWC descended IE languages. These would have come from the Globular Amphora Culture hence the distribution on the map. Its possibly Cuceteni-Trypillia added to this as well.
"Germanic Agricultural Substrate" Refers to Substrate terms in Germanic not cognate with Substrate terms in other IE branches. "Seal Hunter substrate" is a more hypothetical Substrate Hunter-gatherer related terms in Germanic.
Paleo lakelandic and Paleo laplandic are two related Substrates contributing heavy vocabulary to Saami. Pre-Greek substrate contributes around 1000 words to Proto-Greek.
I did not include the Goidelic substrate because i find it incredibly unlikely that a Pre-IE language could have survived the 90~% genome replacement in brittain of the Indo-European Bell Beaker Culture
@VVeltkrieger There's also a substrate in the Upper Volga region, I personally call it Paleo-Volgaic Volosovo remnants??? https://www.academia.edu/51152...
@kyudoesstuff wtf thats interesting, never knew about this
@VVeltkrieger Are you going to buy Sub-Indo-European Europe by Kroonen when it drops?
@GrecoPhilistine lord scihub unlock this DOI at once
@VVeltkrieger Pick some better font colours. I can almost read the text
@hemmeligskrift >tfw you cant guess what these are based on their shape on the map Youre ngmi.
@VVeltkrieger Isn't Eteocypriot a pre-IE language as well ? But I don't think they let a substrate in the modern Greek Cypriot language.
@Red_lychee_ Yes it is, not sure if thats just minoan though.
@VVeltkrieger Some scholars place Ligurian as a non-Indo-European language
@Kweklos95 Some scholars are retarded
@VVeltkrieger We miss a lot of knowledge, since white spots were inhabited by people who could speak, arguably
@_marcomontanari Yes
@heirofascania @guenonista Europeans kanging as some random desert tribes is incredibly retarded and insulting to our actual ancestors
@VVeltkrieger The pre-greek substrate language spread would've probably been further south/east
@VVeltkrieger have you seen Sorin Paliga's work on possible pre-IE substrate in Thracian & Romanian ?
@VVeltkrieger In the west part of the Basque/Aquitanian area (modern day Biscay and Alava) Indo-European (pre-Celtic) substrate is clear. The scenario must've been complex. Maybe proto-Aquitanian was replaced from there after the arrival of the BB folk. Somehow it became "re-vasconized" later
@VVeltkrieger I would have added the eteo chypriot and hurrian languages in east Anatolia
@VVeltkrieger Where would the proto albanians fit into this map?
@VVeltkrieger @GreenWalden I think I asked this before but why are parts of Denmark overlayed with seal hunter
@VVeltkrieger @threadreaderapp unroll.
