/8 I am excited to share the results of our team's year-long study on the Wagner Group at .@NewFrontlines. We've launched http://uncoveringwagner.org, shedding light on the Kremlin’s irregular warfare strategy, which did not die with Prigozhin. #WagnerGroup #Russia
/8 Our latest report, “The Wagner Group’s Little Black Book: Decoding Command and Control of Russia’s Irregular Forces,” uncovers startling truths about Wagner's structure and ties to the Russian government. Read it here: https://www.newamerica.org/fut...
/8 What we've found is alarming: • Evidence linking Wagner to Russian defense, intelligence, and Kremlin officials • A vast network of 127+ bases and across Africa, Syria, and Ukraine • A clear pattern of resource exploitation with at least 44 extractive industry sites
/8 This project wouldn't have been possible without our partners at .@WarCrimesWCL, ASU's Information Competition Lab and .@Future_of_War, and .@C4ADS. Collaboration is key in unraveling such complex webs.
/8 On http://uncoveringwagner.org, you'll find interactive visualizations of Wagner's command structure, profiles of key figures, and in-depth country analyses. It's a treasure trove for researchers and policymakers.
/8 The implications of our findings are profound. Even post-Prigozhin, Wagner's influence persists via successors with, in some cases, the same personnel & oversight. The links we’ve found to the Russian state have implications for international justice & accountability.
/8 This research will also form the backbone of my upcoming book, "Putin's Sledgehammer: The Wagner Group and Russia's Collapse into Mercenary Chaos," coming May 2025 from @public_affairs.
/8 Our work is part of an ongoing multi-year project. As we continue to unravel the complexities of Russia's irregular warfare strategy, your engagement is invaluable. Explore http://uncoveringwagner.org and join the conversation.
