"The King's Gift: A Blade for the Worthy" Únětice Culture (2300–1600 BC), Early Bronze Age Central Europe.

Emerging from a fusion of Corded Ware and Bell Beaker traditions around 2300 BC, Únětice society’s advanced metalwork, unique burial practices, and vast trade networks made it a foundational culture in early European history.

With this drawing, I wanted to capture the image of the great king from the monumental burial mound of Dieskau (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany). Existing depictions felt limited, so I sought to convey his importance and the sophistication of this ancient culture as I envisioned it.

I wasn’t sure how to incorporate the double gold pins (Ösenkopfnadel), important markers of high status, so I reached out for guidance. @DanDavisWrites suggested looking into Harald Meller’s work, and this is what i found. Even so, I’m still not completely satisfied.

@DanDavisWrites Many thanks to Dan Davis; I recommend checking out his video on the Únětice culture on his YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

To finish, Here is a drawing of an important Nordic culture from the Bronze Age, which partly derives from this ancient Central European civilization. https://x.com/Re_my_06/status/...

Also, take a look at the Argaric culture in southern Spain, which existed during the same period as the Únětice culture and engaged in trade and even marriage alliances among high-status individuals. https://x.com/Re_my_06/status/...

@Re_my_06 This is so good

@Hillebard2 Born too late to be knighted by an ancient king... Thanks!

@Re_my_06 if I squint my eyes, I see a neolithic river pirate. Jokes aside, really love your bronze age drawings!

@DoodlingPiotr I don't know if these people practiced piracy. But many other cultures did. Somewhere I read that according to the Greeks, the Etruscans were famous for piracy.

@Re_my_06 Epico pibe

@Felipondio64 Gracias!

@Re_my_06 Dios, la forma en que pintas los distintos materiales y texturas es sublime

@Crazygamusino Gracias. Me alegro que alguien se haya fijado.

@Re_my_06 Being buried under a hill with a tree on top is peak burial. 100% would be my way to go.

@mowgliHBC It seems poetic and symbolically deep.

@Re_my_06 You might find this article interesting https://x.com/serbiaireland/st...

@Re_my_06 Well done, it inspires a warrior king pretty well, he looks like he would go and be the head of a warband to raid or protect his territory. Really like the square pattern, it reminds me to BellBeakers for some reason.

@Re_my_06 Absolutely amazing 👏 I love that you are making these overview artworks of different tribes/cultures.
