My SEO Keyword Research Process for a B2B Business: - Based on 15+ yrs running B2B companies. - 10+ yrs conducting keyword research. - And 25+ current B2B SEO clients. No B.S. here. All real-life strategies I implement weekly.
/ Define Your B2B Audience Focus on decision-makers like executives or founders. Identify specific pain points your solution solves. Tailor your keywords to industry needs and job roles.
/ Use Industry-Specific Keywords Focus on B2B solutions, not general consumer terms. Include industry jargon or niche terms unique to your market. Research terms your ideal customer actually searches for.
/ Leverage B2B Tools Use SEMrush and Ahrefs for keyword insights. Analyze competitor strategies in your B2B niche. Incorporate data from industry reports and white papers.
/ Focus on Intent-Based Keywords Prioritize keywords like “software solutions for” or “enterprise services.” Focus on BOFU keywords tied to purchasing decisions. Target MOFU decision-stage terms like “vendor comparison.”
/ Target Long-Tail Keywords Use specific terms like “B2B CRM software for SMBs.” Long-tail keywords attract higher-intent, qualified leads. Focus on niche, lower-competition terms for better conversion.
/ Analyze Competitors Look at the H2s, H3s of the top content. Use it as inspo then make your own. Aim for a similar amt of H2s and H3s. As always, make yours better!
/ Use Business-Specific Jargon Include terms like “enterprise solutions,” “SaaS platforms,” or “B2B procurement.” Reflect terminology found in RFPs and corporate documents. Align your language with professional B2B search behaviors.
/ Include Transactional KWs Focus on action-based keywords like “pricing,” “request demo,” or “get a quote.” These show buying intent and lead to conversions. Use keywords that signal decision-making stages in the buying cycle.
/ Prioritize Quality Over Quantity Target kw’s that get leads, not just traffic. Focus on terms that align with business solutions and decision-making. Refine based on which keywords drive actual conversions.
/ Monitor and Update Regularly Track performance using Google Analytics or HubSpot. Adapt to changes in industry trends or new search behaviors. Regularly review your keyword list for new opportunities.
