@DytrykJesionek Explanation and Interpretation of the Chernyakov Culture🧵
@DytrykJesionek The Chernyakov Culture Represents the Two dominant Gothic Tribes, the Tervingi south of the Dniester, and the Greuthungi North of it. The Culture was ruled by the Goths, but it was evidently clearly Multicultural and had many Cultural Substrates.
@DytrykJesionek Perhaps one of the Biggest is the Przeworsk Influence on the Culture. The Pzreworsk Culture is easily associated with the Lugii and Vandals. It seems Vandals were a very big and prominent part of this Culture, something that doesn't seem to be reflected in the Historical Sources
@DytrykJesionek There was, of course, a very large Alanic/Sarmatian part of the population, likely they consisted the Biggest ethnic group within the Culture. They are Characterized by Non-Cremating Burials and Stone-walled Settlements and Forts.
@DytrykJesionek The BalÞ Dynasty of the Tervingi ruled a Large Territory Bordering rome and pushing into Transylvania, a region they possibly called "Kaukalanda". The Tervingi fluctuated between Raiding and Allying Rome, and it is possible they are the Progenitors of the later Visigoths.
@DytrykJesionek Perhaps one of the most interesting things about the Chernyakov Culture is its Influence on the Slavic Ethnogenesis. The Kiev Culture, identified with Proto-Slavs, and Chernyakov Culture co-habited in some regions and Cultural Contact definetly Existed and persisted
@DytrykJesionek Jordanes writes how the Gothic Emperor Ermanarik marched north to Subdue the "Veneti", which he immediatly after states are the Ancestors of all the Slavic Peoples.
@DytrykJesionek One thing of note is that the Goths took the Dnieper as a very strict boundary. Almost no sites are found far east of it, and of the very few Fortified Settlements we have, two are built immediatly Behind it. Because to the east were Huns.
@DytrykJesionek To the Northwest lies the Ancient Homeland of the Goths, Named by Jordanes as "Gothiscandza", Which the Gothic King Berik took his people to after Departing from "Scandza" in three ships. There his People multiplied until they then went to Scythia, allured by its Fertile Land
@DytrykJesionek This Migration is Archaeologically Traceable in the Wielbark Culture
