Ghostty on Reddit, there's a lesson in this. 🤣 "r/macOS": Neat, nice app. iTerm is nice too. I love choice. "r/linux": arguments about what "native" means, angry they have to click one link to learn what it is, disappointed that another terminal exists, 50-comment discussion

@mitchellh @luciascarlet dis you post to reddit voluntarily? Isn't that default reddit experience (I left long time ago)

@krzyzanowskim @luciascarlet Nah. I don’t even read it. My friends sent me some specific comment links to laugh over

@mitchellh >r/macOS >I love choice ironic

@bloberenober There's irony in both sides, but only one is rude about it. (Fwiw, I main Linux mostly -- via a VM on macOS)

@mitchellh Don't care, it's awesome.

@warmwaffle haha thanks. Fwiw I don't really care either, I find it very funny and informative of where the priorities are.

@mitchellh Linux users tend to favor customizability above all, so "fast, feature-rich, and native" (meaning GNOME) aren't selling points for them.

@phenlix Sure but it’s a very surface level judgement. Ghostty has over 200 configuration options including disabling all client side decorations so KDE looks fine

@mitchellh I think it’s because we have had dozens of terminals for years so we scrutinize them a lot more. We invest much more in picking a terminal so we are more critical when switching (for the 10th time) requires some solid reasoning. Didn’t see any features I needed.

@jon3k All good. I'm just highlighting cultural differences. I use Linux over 50% of the time (more than macOS) so I'm more a Linux user than Mac. But I've noticed Mac people are more friendly "hey, you made something cool!" (even if they're not going to use it) and Linux folks are more

@mitchellh What I get from that is that Linux users are curious and constructive and like freedom of choice and opinion.

@antoineg That’s what I say too when I spend a few decades picking the color of my bike shed!

@mitchellh Well, macOS users don't care about their terminals while Linux users do. Hence why on Linux there are many choices of terminals and from also very established developers that kinda turn everything they touch into gold. One example would be Christian and his take on a modern

@KristijanZic This is far too reductive of an argument. There are great terminals on macOS (not including Ghostty). Ptyxis is great so no shade there. Also kind of crazy to say equivalent engineers don’t exist for an entire ecosystem.

@mitchellh GTK vs QT? I just turned the window decorations off and it's been great so far lmao

@dambvegetables The community that spends 6 hours customizing their 12th launcher change of the year can’t be bothered with the couple lines to achieve this. How dare you
