GTA 4 is still ahead of most open world titles in terms of details, physics, and atmosphere with Liberty City, and this is a game that's nearly 17 years old. Here are 10 hidden & small details from GTA 4 that prove it was ahead of its time. A Thread š§µ
1) Shady Websites Visiting a website for āchild beauty pageantsā will net you an instant 5-star wanted level, as it is a sting website set up by the police to catch predators.
2) Paramedics Paramedics are quite realistic in GTA 4, once an pedesterian is harmed out in public, an ambulance gets called and they actually are able to revive NPCs. This is one detail I am still disappointed was entirely missing from GTA 5, where paramedics just stare aimlessly and can't revive NPCs.
3) Barrels react to loud noises next to them Shout out to Kommander Karl for finding this, if you shoot next to a barrel, they actually begin to vibrate. This is a detail that is so well hidden it took many years for anyone to notice it, Rockstar truly are insane.
4) The Subway System GTA 4 has a completely working subway system, you can ride it around the entire city seamlessly with no loading screens, all stations are fully modeled including all the tunnels too. I can't wait to see how GTA 6 recreates the Miami metro system and explore that. It's like Persona 5 but in America š

5) Realistic Traffic Stops Cops in GTA 4 will conduct realistic traffic stops if they suspect a pedesterian of illegal activity. This is a rare detail so I wouldn't be surprised if you went multiple playthroughs without ever seeing this!
6) Homeless defense If you give money to a homeless person, they'll fight to the death for you if another NPC were to attack you. It's like having your very own bodyguard
7) Burnouts Doing burnouts for too long will cause your tires to pop, leaving realistic scratch marks on the ground from now on if you attempt to drive and realistically affecting the traction of the vehicle.
8) Taxi Car Wash Discount Car Washes in GTA 4 have a sign advertising that Taxis get special discounts, and this is actually reflected in the gameplay, if you take a taxi to the car wash you will have to pay less compared to any other vehicle.
9) The Cellphone The Cellphone in GTA 4 is pretty awesome for a ton of reasons, first off it was the first of its kind in the 3D GTA games that you could actually just pull out at anytime, you get newer models as the story goes on and you can actually see the screen is rendered in-game if you take a closer look at the phone niko is holding!
10) The Sopranos The Sopranos's Satriale's Pork Store is actually in GTA 4, The store's front is directly taken from the real life building but the name on the sign is blanked out (assuming for copyirght reasons)

I feel like we are all begging at this point for a GTA 4 port to newer systems, this game has aged so well that all it needs is just a 4K port that runs at 60FPS and it really would be more than fine. I hope Double Elven (folks behind RDR1 ports) are working on this next as the fans really deserve to be able to replay these on newer consoles that don't have access to backward compatibility.
