The Baltic origins of the Kisapostag Culture and Warriors from Tollense? The Kisapostag Culture might seem like a Relatively uninteresting Group of Hungarian Bronze Age, but Genetic samples reveal something completely unexpected and unprecedented, with NO explanation at all...
Genetic Samples from the Kisapostag Culture (2200-2000bc) and its Successor Encrusted Ware (2000-1500bc) reveal a extremely strange and unexpected combination of Ancestry What is to note is the Coverage.
There is a Very unusually high amount of Hunter Gatherer ancestry combined with the even more Peculiar Baltic-like ancestry (HOW DID THEY GET HERE) and lack of additional steppe ancestry. These Hungarian Samples and the Serbian One are All Haplogroup I-L1229
But why Baltic_BA? Baltic_BA is more than 1000 years AFTER the Kisapostag culture, yet is the only suitable proxy for this strange type of ancestry. Baltic_BA must represent a hithertho unsampled Population that Contributed to Kisapostag, and the actual origin of this ancestry-
Could be the Middle-Dnieper culture. There is a GIGANTIC sampling void around belarus and northern Ukraine. There is not a single sample from 3000-1000bc in this Region, hence the only samples that are Close enough to our Mystery Population are from the well sampled Baltic
The first time where this Ancestry combines to form the Kisapostag profile is in the Iron gates area in 2350bc, pointing to a Danubian route for this Population
This IronGates sample was Haplogroup I-L1229 and the first sample with this Haplogroup I-L1229 Dominated in the Succeeding Kisapostag and Encrusted ware Cultures and this Iron Gates sample is the first instance of it Appearing
I-L1229 spread with the Kisapostag Culture (Pink dots) and Kisapostag-Like ancestry is seen in entire Shaded area even outside the area of Kisapostag
On a 3d PCA you can see the Position of Kisapostag inbetween Steppe and Farmers as is Expected, but also with a Considerable Neolithic Pull.
In a Horizontal Perspective the Drift toward Baltic_BA is visible. Baltic BA represents a extremely isolated and drifted population that we still dont have the right samples for, and its not pulled into the exact direction of Baltic_BA, just Downward.
Whats Remarkable is that after 1600bc, when the Kisapostag and Encrusted ware communities come to an end at the hands of the Tumulus Culture, I-L1229 appears in Czechia and even Poland
And even more Remarkable is the Presence of I-l1229 at the Tollense Battle Two samples Specifically, WEZ15 and WEZ64 even carry the Autosomal Iron Gates HG and Baltic BA ancestry of Kisapostag, meaning that this group did not get completely Assimilated after 1600bc
The other Tollense I-L1229 samples don't carry as much of this Actual ancestry, however it is still remarkable to find it here of all places
After the Tumulus invasion Encrusted Pottery groups migrated Southward along the Danube. They were replaced by Fluted-ware groups afterward, however this could explain Thraco-Dacian similarities with baltic.
It is clear that the HG and EEF Ancestries remain in a somewhat consistent 60/40 Relationship throughout the Samples from Hungary, with Baltic_BA rising when the other two fall and vice-versa The Samples from Jagodnjak have considerably less Iron Gates ancestry however and-
also are not I-L1229, but instead G2a I do not understand how this is even really possible in the middle bronze age but this is such a strange phenomenon that idc anymore
Archaeologically, this seems to be a completely invisible migration. It is worth noting that the Trzciniec Culture also had around 30~% Baltic_BA Ancestry, but this is AFTER Kisapostag. There is no major Culture visibly and materially propogating this, but one clue
could be the Kolonativ-Cobraska axes who i have associated with the catacomb culture and Myceneans before The reason i say this is because the majority of them are from the Unsampled Middle-dnieper area and show up in the balkans around 2500bc precisely when Baltic_BA reaches it
Another argument in favour for the Middle-Dnieper culture representing a Unsampled Baltic-Like population is the fact that Fatyanovo Post-dates Middle-Dnieper and seems to migrate from the Baltic area instead of from the Dnieper river
Most Datings from the Middle-dnieper culture put it as late as 2500bc, with some Middle-dnieper pottery showing up in poland during 2600-2700bc The Earliest Fatyanovo is already manifested in 2800bc We cant say for sure, of course, until Belarus releases Samples
So to Recap A possibly Para-Balto-Slavic population carrying I-L1229 moved into Hungary through the Iron gates in 2100-2400bc, this must have been a quick migration This Founder-effects in the Kisapostag Culture, which integrates into the Tumulus Culture and fights at Tollense
This is by far the most Retarded and Confusing event in the Bronze Age and there are hints that the Kisapostag Profile survives in some form up until 800bc somehow, ive seen nobody talking about this or trying to explain it
