@Tharizdun03 The main issue I see with Frieren is that it centers so strongly around the main theme of Frieren being able to go beyond her own nature as an elf... And then draws the clearest fucking parallel in the history of narrative, with the demons, but for some reason says "nah".

@Tharizdun03 People are comparing it to real life and that's just it... Frieren is set in a fantasy world. Frieren hates demons and for very good reason, considering they wiped out her village. Demons are literally predators who have no concept of morality. Mimics disguised as humans.

@Tharizdun03 This is by far my biggest criticism of the show as well. Conceptually, the idea of Demons effectively being humanoid skinwalkers is cool. But story wise, the way it uses the demon plotline as a way to say "coexistence is bad, actually" is fucking bizarre.

@Tharizdun03 The demons are meant to be a foil to elves in the series, not to just be "pure evil". Demons are incapable of internalizing human morals, right and wrong, good and evil. Elves are similarly disconnected due to their lifespan, but elves can learn and internalize what they learn

@Tharizdun03 Yes! I bought a 300€ Frieren figure for myself. I bought an even more expensive one with her and Fern for a friend. I'm a huge Frieren fan! But that doesn't mean I can't recognise that there's pernicious aspects about it. In fact it makes me care more about those elements!

@Tharizdun03 I think a lot of the issue is that the demons in Frieren aren't supposed to be a stand in for any real world people, but instead the unknown. Things that are difficult for us to empathize with and connect to (which is why I think Frieren will actually come to make peace with /1

@Tharizdun03 I dont want to say that because it feels like i am being one of the annoying people that say "it's not that deep" but not every story have allegory, sometimes the author just want to have antagonists that are evil. Of course, nothing stops facists to try to push their agenda

@Tharizdun03 The real reason is they can’t read. They view demons as a “race” parallel to minorities rather than the in universe explanation of them being a species that actively preys on humans. They like the idea of genociding demons because they’re humanising them.
