#goyuu the day geto suguru wakes from his coma is racuous. plans overthrown, a missing arm, the curses hes collected gone- he’s decided to turn himself in. do what one must. the higher ups and 2nd years agree all too much. satoru doesn’t.
and him being him…well, what satoru wants, satoru gets. even after all this time, hes his best friend. nothing has changed that. and if the man himself is giving himself over, then satoru alone will choose that fate.
yuuji avoids the room geto is in as much as possible with his head in a fog and a heavy pit of dread settling in his stomach. the few times yuuji’s seen him, he’s talking to satoru, a gentle smile playing on his lips and his eyes softer than anything yuuji could conjure.
he laughs so sweetly. meanwhile yuuji walks like a dead man, awaiting the inevitable, when will satoru bring their relationship up he wonders. he can’t have forgotten, not when hes working so hard to make arrangements for geto’s circumstance.
he cant have, when he visits everyday, loud and happy and chattering away. he cant have, when hes let geto run amok for 10 years doing whatever, just waiting.
when yuuji hears them talk one day— a real talk, with apologies and loose ends tied and regrets shared— he knows it’s time. he might as well get the jump and pack properly. he trudges home, thinking of what to take, what to leave, ears ringing. they share so much. it’ll be hard.
yuuji doesnt bother with the lights, his muscle memory taking over for the last time in the house they’ve chosen together years ago. hes shaking when he takes a duffel bag out, blindly grabbing for clothes, willing himself not to cry. he didn’t have the right to,
it would have happened eventually, he /knew/ how satoru felt. it’s yuuji’s fault, he almost started believing him. yuuji feels something soft brush against his legs, a small furry head bumping into him as hard as it can. ah…it was one of their cats, a beautiful white ragdoll.
for some reason, this is what breaks him. yuuji picks em up, tears finally spilling, cradling it close to his chest. he buries his head into its thick fur, breathing deeply. satoru’s called the kits their children countless times. like they’re married, like theyre true.
yuuji doesn’t know how long he stays there, quietly sobbing in the dark. only that he hears the telltale shutting of the door, the flick of a light switch, and satoru yelling his presence. yuuji looks down at his half packed bag, panic filling his veins but too tired to move.
satoru will catch him, he thinks. still here, still lingering. he’ll know, and he’ll do it first. fuck. yuuji wishes he hadn’t wasted so much time. maybe then he wouldn’t have to hear it from satoru’s mouth. “yuuji? baby?” the door to their room creaks open, a sliver of
light from outside falling exactly on yuuji, illuminating the wet shine of his reddened cheeks. “what’s wrong?” satoru inches towards him, cautious of his lover’s delicate state. “it’s the cats,” yuuji croaks, sniffling, “how could i leave them too? i..even if..”
“wait, yuuji, hold on-” satoru rushes towards him, taking the cat in his arms to set it down on the floor and checking him over. “leave? what are you talking about?” “geto-san’s back,” yuuji laughs hoarsely, “you have him, he’s back. it’s over.” “what-“ “that day with shoko,
when you said-“ satoru pulls yuuji into a bone crushing hug then, holding him so tight yuuji can feel the rapid beating of his heart. ah..so he does remember. “no no no no no yuuji, baby, no- you heard me? that time was-” he closes his eyes, lets satoru’s panicked rambling
and warmth wash over him before he’s ripped away from the comfort of his chest. satoru cradles yuuji’s cheeks in both his hands “listen, baby, heres what we’ll do. we’ll get you washed up okay? i’ll help you unpack. let’s eat a nice dinner, it’ll be my treat, anything, and then-
fuck, yuuji, all this time? 10 years-” “what the hell was i supposed to think then huh!?” yuuji yells. he tries to pry satoru’s hands away from himself, nails digging in, but satoru doesn’t budge even as it breaks skin. “it wasn’t like you did anything to show you were over him
either! i wish-” here yuuji starts choking with emotion, “i wish you ended this farce earlier so i wouldn’t have to..to..” the tears start up again, and satoru kisses them away, his face held so gently it leaves yuuji speechless, distracted. he wishes satoru would just stop.
“yuuji, listen,” he starts, forehead pressed against the other’s, “maybe i meant it back then, sure i planned it at the start. but you made it so /so/ hard to stay on track that in the end it didn’t matter. i wasn’t sure when i was younger, but i know it now. the past 10 years,
all of it, they’re for you, no one else in mind. i meant every single second i was here.” “but if you had a second chance,” yuuji sniffs, “if geto-san had come back earlier, you’d have left in a heartbeat wouldn’t you?” “i dont know,” satoru confesses, “maybe i would have. but
if i could turn back time to those days with the knowledge i have now, i wouldn’t go back at all. you’re it for me, yuuji. i’m sorry.” at this, yuuji melts to the floor, boneless and exhausted, and satoru goes right with him. he tucks yuuji back into his embrace, petting
at his hair, the both of them quiet. after a beat, yuuji breaks the silence. “that time..shoko said geto-san was your one and only.” satoru pauses in his movements imperceptibly, surprised. “mm..no, not anymore. he was my first, that always hurts, but im quite certain you’ll be
my last.” the room is quiet once more, the ticking of a clock somewhere the only noise. yuuji’s not sure how long they stay there, grounding one another with physical contact. “yuuji.” “mm?” “what do you say we get married?” yuuji sputters in his arms, trying to get away,
but satoru only holds him even tighter, mouth already going a mile a minute. “i’ve thought about it before, but this just confirms it. i need you. itadori satoru, what do you think? i’ll be all yours, no one else’s. the only gojo clan member, gone. and from it’s ashes will rise
the itadoris. our precious cats will be heirs, it’s funny-” yuuji finally pries himself off, pushing at his chest. “satoru!” yuuji glares at him, getting a good look only to be struck to find the man completely serious. satoru smiles. “and your answer?” “…yes.” [end ♡]
