10 years in the markets. Lots of trades. Tons of mistakes. 10 major mistakes & lessons in last 10 years of Trading A thread🧵
1) I was able to enter and ride uptrend but unable to exit when trend changes. This is similar to Abhimanyu Chakravyuh from Mahabharat where one knows how to enter but doesn’t know how to exit. So a good trader is one who can do well in both bull & bear markets
2) Justifying a wrong trade taken in smaller time frame I used to enter on smaller time frame but kept changing my stoploss For eg 20 sma broken But 50 sma hold karge 200 sma toh pakka hi hold karega Always respect your stoploss. No matter what
3) Getting too complacment after winning streaks My largest losses have come after my biggest winning streaks🥹 As a trader try to make sure that you dont too excited about your wins and just focus on the process.
4) Underestimating event risk I have carried trades a few times before major events and have burnt my hands☹️ Trading on events/results is rarely profitable Best is to skip major events or trade light before major events such as FOMC, results, election, inflation data etc
5) Not testing the waters As a a good trade one needs to first test the water and enter with a small size and add to the trade only if it’s going in favour. But I have entered trades with a big size and due to large size exited on small pullback and couldn’t ride the trend
6) Not being aligned with the trend Big money is made only when major time frames align Rule: A simple rule is to trade stocks only above 20 sma on daily time frame So a simple 20 sma helps filter many wrong trades Try it out💯
7) Trading Journal + Mistakes Sheet Make it a habit to fill your trading journal after market close and note lessons learnt and mistakes if any As a trader we need only 2 things 1) A pattern which we can replicate the next time 2) A mistake which we should avoid the next time
8) Entering a trade without knowing the initial risk 3 things needed for every trade Entry signal Qty SL (Risk)
9) Worst case scenarios Black swans happens once in a while But for eg Dow falling 10% and rising 10% in just a week Unhedged traders can go bankrupt in such moves So always be hedged for worst case scenarios
10) Avoid a big loss There are 4 outcomes of a trade a) Small Win b) Small Loss c) Big Win d) Big Loss Avoid Big Loss at all cost❌
