*ο½₯γπ [DETAILED] how i eat, exercise, study and maintain a low bmi while in med school q.:*ο½₯ with mealspo :3
1 - PRIORITISE. YOUR. HEALTHY. FATS. fish oil. salmon. avocado. olive oil. chia seeds. your brain will thank you, and your grades will thank you even more.
2 - get a realistic mindset. stop acting like you can omad like a teenager while knowing damn well you have grades to get and goals to work towards. ik its hard, but grades come before your ed, sorry not sorry.
3 - instead of πing, do intermittent fasting using a window like 16:8, 18:6 or 20:4. adjust based on your needs. during exam szn, i use 16:8 and during non exam szn i use 20:4. on my period where i dont feel as good as i normally do to study, i use 18:6.
3.1 - controversial, yes, but ketosis makes you dumb. breakdown of fats is a useful energy source and it improves mind clarity, but realistically speaking (from first hand experience), it will not help you retain information in the long run.
3.2 - when i hit ketosis, i do priming for my next class instead of active recall. priming introduces you to new information and you tend to understand it better when youre taught it in class. it is passive reading, and by doing something light but powerful, your brain is happy.
4 - do not run from your carbs. i know, i know, "carbs bad". but not all carbs are bad! studies show that carbs with low glycemic index, aka complex carbs, take longer to breakdown in your body and therefore keep you full for longer and are energised. avoid a no carb diet.
5 - do not neglect your damn electrolytes. i cannot stress this enough. use moringa powder or multi vitamins. i personally prefer moringa powder with green tea. it doesn't always taste the best, but the pros outweigh the cons by a lot.
6 - if you are doing high res (which you should've figured out by now that you shouldn't be doing), take ultra strength prenatal vitamins. they contain extra folate, fish oil, and DHA. these will protect your brain and heart in the long run.
7 - stay away from laxatives. could take some miralax once a month for a full cleanout, but i want you to make black coffee your best friend for when youre constipated. not only will it give you a buzz to fly through your study sesh, it'll help your bowels too.
8 - fasting structure w studying: when i do 20:4, i eat at 12pm and start the fast at 4pm. this way, i sneak in 2 healthy meals like those i have described in the previous paragraphs. at around 6pm, i down a pitch black coffee to boost me through the rest of the study session.
8.1 - i had briefly mentioned priming during ketosis. i only do this for lectures after 11am. for my lectures that start at 9am, i do priming after waking up and finishing getting ready.
8.2 - i usually wake up around 7:00am. i wash my face and go down to my uni gym for a quick 30 minute fasting walk. by 8am, i shower and get ready for lecture. i make my green tea/coffee for my lecture and do my priming, and then walk to the building my lecture is in.
8.3 - my lectures mostly start at 9. by this time, in one hour i will be hitting ketosis (between 10am-12pm). i use an audio to text converter study ai to make notes during lecture and so i can pay full attention while i slowly sip on either green tea or black coffee.
8.4 - this helps ease me into it while keeping me focused. after lecture, i read through my notes. i do it again 15 minutes later too. then, upload my notes into ai and ask it to convert it into anki flashcards. i review them the same night. this helps w retention.
8.5 - by 12pm, all my lecture resources will be organised. all this will be done during ketosis. i didn't spend any extra energy trying to actively engage with the content. it was passive, and it will still work, as i will actively engage with the content the same night.
8.6 - i will eat my breakfast/lunch at 12pm and i will do this with a meal containing complex carbs. this gives me an energy boost and 3 hours for deep focused work, during which i do heavy content such as timed exam papers, active recall (by blurting or flashcards), feynman etc.
8.7 - i eat a high protein, high fiber and healthy fat heavy dinner at 4pm and follow it up with a healthy snack like skyr protein yoghurt with frozen berries.
9 - studying structure: i do either 50-10 pomodoro (for when i do light work like practice questions), 150-45 (timed exam papers), or 25-5 for anki (flashcards). i have the highest energy in the afternoon after my first meal, so i do heavy work then.
9.1 - when im done with my afternoon study session (150-45), i eat dinner. right after dinner, i make my way to the gym where i do an incline walk for an hour as i review my flashcards that i made earlier during the day from that day's lecture(s), and other flashcard reviews due.
9.2 - usually by 6pm, i am all done at the gym so i come back home and shower. i have my 6pm coffee, and do lighter work sessions. this includes practice questions with 50-10 and flashcards using a 25-5 pomodoro. i study until 10pm doing this.
9.3 - at 10pm, if im not sleepy, i read a book of my choice until im sleepy or doomscroll on edtwt. i guess we all know which one of those happened tonightπ
10 - weekends - i use weekends as days to finally wind the fuck down after a whole week of mental exhaustion. i do the things i enjoy. i only do my flashcard reviews and brief priming for the next week's content. very light, very chill.
by doing this, i study an average of 9-10 hours during weekdays. end of thread !! sorry for the lack of pics on the latter ones, i just couldnt be arsed. feel free to dm me if u have any questions ! ty for reading and i wish u the best of luck :3
