/ "we got bored" should be replaced by "we got tired of the Triffin dilemma where our primary industry for the last 75 years has been exporting dollars and credentialed expertise, thus insanely privileging one class of Americans (Yale grads, bankers, etc) over another >>>
/ (machinists, factory techs, etc), and the former class, not content to capture 90% of the increase in wages and power, ALSO had to capture 200% of the MORAL highground by (a) endlessly lecturing the former core Americans on their cultural and moral backwardness, and
/ when these hectoring lectures did not shame the displaced core Americans into dying on the spot, then sought to replace these core Americans with an imported serf class, for the stated reasons that - they're good at gardening and child care - street tacos are amaze-balls!!!
/ ...and so one thing (the global American empire) which seems to have almost nothing to do with other things (employment in Appalachia, anti-white discrimination in Yale, gun control in Massachusetts, dripping disdain in Slate, the LA Times, HBO, and Marvel films) really does.
/ and 60% of Americans understand this and rightly came to the conclusion "if the only way to stop taxpayer funded immigrant caravans, and snot-nosed girl bosses lecturing electricians on the gender spectrium, and the opioid epidemic is to destroy the GAE...then let it burn"
/
/ There's nothing schizo here. I explained the motivations of a large swath of people. "Economy is better than peer countries". First, there are no peer countries. https://x.com/brilivs/status/1...
/ Second, that's not the comparison most folks make - they look at the counterfactual America where we aren't stuck in a Triffin trap .
/ Third, 80% of the outrage comes from status problem, not dollar problems.
/ Take away a man's job, replace it dollar for dollar with disability, and then lecture him 24x7 that he's a loser, he has nothing to give the world, he should die off to let genderqueer Muslim Mexicans replace him...and he will do anything to get the job (and status) back.
/ > name a single prominent elected democrat Bill Clinton > we're not taking away jobs do you understand the Triffin Dilemma? > hoping for 1950s I'm not, for a lot of reasons. I'm just telling you what a laid off person in a milltown thinks. https://x.com/brilivs/status/1...
/ you asked "prominent elected democrat", and I named one of the most popular presidents since the end of the cold war ( which is pretty recent, if one is an actual adult, and not a 22 year old) https://x.com/brilivs/status/1...
/ > [ you ] like being reserve currency Great. You're allowed to have that preference. I'm explaining what a large [ election winning! ] percent of the US electorate thinks, and you called that a "schizo rant". You're free to have a different utility function >>>
/ but you're not allowed to have your own reality where Trump didn't win the election, and his base doesn't have [ plausible, well defined ] opinions on things.
/ ...and see also, @brilivs , a point I made earlier. People are motivated by status and meaning. Explaining that is not, I suggest, a "schizo rant". https://x.com/MorlockP/status/...
/ You're responding to something I didn't write. Re-read the thesis statement in post you're responding to (#1 in this series) and realize that those, and only those, are the claims I am making. https://x.com/x_spinoza/status...
