SemiAnalysis: -China’s top AI server, the Huawei AI CloudMatrix 384, beats the best US one, the Nvidia GB200 NVL72 -TSMC manufactured the “vast majority of Ascend 910B and 910C” chips -Samsung provided the HBM memory chips. -China's semiconductor manufacturing is improving fast due to ease buying equipment -The US needs to act fast to slow Huawei and China down. 2/7 SemiAnalysis: “Huawei and China now have AI system capabilities that can beat Nvidia’s…A full CloudMatrix system can now deliver 300 PFLOPs of dense BF16 compute, almost double that of the (Nvidia) GB200 NVL72” with a drawback, “it takes 3.9x the power of a GB200 NVL72.” Power deficiencies are not a limiting factor in China.
3/7 SemiAnalysis: “The CloudMatrix 384 consists of 384 Ascend 910C chips connected through an all-to-all topology. The tradeoff is simple: having five times as many Ascends more than offsets each GPU being only one-third the performance of an Nvidia Blackwell.”
4/7 SemiAnalysis: The “vast majority of Ascend 910B and 910C (chips) are made with TSMC’s 7nm. In fact, the US Government, TechInsights, and others have acquired Ascend 910B and 910C and every single one used TSMC dies. Huawei was able to circumvent the sanctions on them against TSMC by purchasing ~$500 million of 7nm wafers through another company, Sophgo.”
5/7 SemiAnalysis: China still cannot make HBM (high bandwidth memory) AI memory chips. “Luckily Samsung has come to the rescue, having been the number one supplier of HBM to China through which Huawei has been able to stockpile a total of 13 million HBM stacks which can be used for 1.6 million Ascend 910C packages before any HBM bans.” Banned HBM continues to be re-exported to China from Taiwan.
6/7 SemiAnalysis: “China’s domestic semiconductor supply chain capability has rapidly improved and is still underestimated. We’ve been consistently sounding the alarm on SMIC and CXMT’s fabrication abilities.” Both “have received tens of billions of dollars worth of tools, and they still receive significant volumes of sole sourced chemicals and materials from foreign countries despite sanctions.”
7/7 SemiAnalysis: The US needs to act fast to slow Huawei down.

Clarification: Huawei Ascend 910B chip and Ascend 910C chip
So China's army of tweeters/posters below says the US should 'just compete, why not just compete.' Easy answer: Beijing gives Huawei tens of billions of dollars a year, and it has a mandate to steal. It's not a company.
