Are markets really being manipulated on the expiry day ? A detailed thread🧵
1) Lets see last Nifty expiry on 8th May We had war tensions Lot of uncertainity going on But straddle at 12 pm was quoting at 19😳 Infact 24400 CE had OI of 7.5 crore This is highest ever OI on a single strike
2) This indicates that someone has opted for a quite expiry and inspite of the uncertainity is sure that 24400 CE won’t be taken out. But now contrast this to yesterday(15th May) Straddle was at 175 at 12 pm And IV was spiking since morning
3) Infact, I had pointed to someone at 10 am that looking at the weird premium behaviour. Today’s expiry can be a violent one and same thing happened later on But what was unusual that..
4) IV’s started spiking much before the final delta move came. Ideally, move should precede the IV But IV spikes first and then a wild moves follows This has happen on many expiries. Hence raises doubts
5) Similar incident happened on countless expiry For eg on 13th December, similar move happened in sensex It fell initially followed by a sharp rally
6) Falling and rising sharply is fine. But what was suprising on that day is Modus operandi was same IV started going up.. straddle premium spiking and then followed by a sharp delta move
7) This is sensex straddle chart on 13th Dec’24 Why were premiums already spiking before the actual move ?
8) But yes as traders, we cannot cry that violent move has come. It’s part of the game. But Only problem is the same modus operandi every time. IV preceding delta moves. Spoke to senior prop traders as well and all agreed that really something is fishy🐟
9) I’ll be doing a detailed youtube video on this with more facts & data. But what are your thoughts on this ? Is this normal or rigged ? Let me know in the comments💭
