Firstly do not take this thread as me being for AI art generation tools, I think its utter slop and I am fully against AI generation tools. However I am also fully against fearmongering so I wanted to get the facts of this 100% straight.

Firstly DomoAI is just an app you can add to a discord server, pretty much just acts like a bot. It is not a direct partnership with discord like they worded it, they do not have access to every message you send on the platform, it needs to be present within a server to function

Secondly when you add DomoAI to your server it lists the permissions you have to grant it in order for it to function, it works like adding a bot like YAGPDB. Under nowhere does it ask for permissions to read messages and therefore cannot just grab images to feed its own AI.

DomoAI have also been replying to accounts today confirming that it cannot access images posted, only images fed to it directly through its commands. https://x.com/DomoAI_/status/1...

Obviously you should take with a grain of salt what DomoAI (or any company when making a statement) is saying, but through research you can confirm that what they are saying lines up with the permissions that the app requests.

Lastly this is not a new thing, yes the blog post was created recently but the original application has been out since at least December 18th 2024.~ I have absolutely no idea why this is popping up as an issue now when its been unnoticed for 5 months. https://x.com/DomoAI_/status/1...

Overall its important to stay vigilant with these sort of things. Sharing infomation is what helps protect one another; but you must make sure what is actually being shared is factually acurate. Spreading misinformation and mudding the truth only makes the situation worse.

I'm personally not an artist myself but I still think that artists should continue to watermark their art appropriately and nightshade pieces when posting them in public places like Discord or Twitter. Appriciate you reading this and I hope you have a great day!
