⏳ FINX BEHIND THE SCENES!!! ⌛️ He was the second brawler I made for @BrawlStars. Pretty fun (and tricky) to implement! His main mechanic is bending time in his favor ⏱️ Open the thread to check out some development videos from before he was released 🧵 Also feel free to ask

Here's the first time I got a projectile to slow down! Funnily enough using Piper was a great accident because we discovered there was a bug where the projectile animation was not actually matching the distance traveled. You can see how it starts to loop at the end of this

First time I got the basic attack and the super working! Can you recognize what brawlers originally are all the placeholder effects I'm using from?

MACHINE GUN FINX???!!! 32k damage looks balanced to me 😎 (Might have been a bug that spammed projectiles when I was coding the 'No Escape' freeze gadget lol)

Bug already fixed here 🫡 First iteration of the gadget was a stun with bullets passing through. Later on I implemented the proper freeze with animation support.

Implementing VFX support for sped up and slowed down projectiles. This was quite tricky to get right! ⏩

'Back to the Finxture' gadget had an *interesting* placeholder effect before we had the final one ready 👀

Ever wondered why Finx doesn't slow down Circling projectiles? Well this is why:

And here's Melody's for fun 🎶

Hope you enjoyed seeing some sneak peeks of how it was to bring Finx to life! ⌛️ I handled the code and implementation for Finx, but the rest of the team made an amazing job with Art, VFX, audio, and design! 💙 Feel free to ask any questions and I'm glad you guys have been

@martinTayx @BrawlStars These thread of brawler breakdowns behind the scene type things are actually so amusing to me Idk what it is but I just love seeing a glimpse of how it came to developing the brawler in the game.

@BSLyles @BrawlStars I love this comments! I make games for people to enjoy them and I also think it's cool to share how they're made.

@martinTayx @BrawlStars I'm fascinated by your work. Your approach to brawlers with more passive gameplay and control is something the game has needed for a while. I'd like to know how you came up with the idea of creating the time control mechanic and if there were other ways you wanted to implement it

@SamuBornAgain @BrawlStars @AdrianHaggqvist is our amazing gameplay designer and comes up with the initial ideas so most of the credit goes to him! In this case I think it was mostly because: "bending time sounds super cool, what can we do with it?"

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Was the initial plan always for the super to slow down projectile speeds? Or did they initially try something else, like altering the movement of the player and opponents? Impeccable work btw, i love Finx

@SamuBornAgain @BrawlStars We actually tried doing projectiles and characters, but slowing down characters was incredibly overpowered so we focused on projectiles. In the end I think it came out pretty well! The first time we playtested it it was so fun seeing peoples reactions to dodging projectiles like

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Can we get more of these in depth developer behind the scenes, theyre really fun :)

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Awesome to see such insightful footage! I do wonder, how though was to implement the varying speeds in projectiles? I'd assume the code logic wasn't made in mind with this back then, and there was probably a lot of interactions to test.

@alv_AIO2 @BrawlStars Glad you liked it! You're totally right, my initial idea was to *just* slow down the projectile movement speed, but... Projectiles didn't support dynamic movement speed 👀 I'll try not to get too much into the math, but this should give you an idea of how it works: We store

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Even after 90+ brawlers, you guys manage to still come up with original mechanics, GG! I was wondering tho ,my fav brawler is Bonnie & when I come across her in a game, I have this small thought that goes like: "I'm sorry little one" What goes on in ur mind when you fight a Finx?

@Saviel_x @BrawlStars Thanks! Bonnie is also great. I love seeing him played! And if he's on the other team and beating me I can only blame myself hahaha

@martinTayx @BrawlStars I am curious, but I don't know if you can respond. Usually, how long before the release of the brawler, you get the main idea of him, and what is him supposed to be like? I think many people thought about it, but I don't think we ever got an answer

@Edy7397 @BrawlStars We have a backlog box of ideas and we pull from it based on what we think is best for the game right now! :)

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Haha looks like you had fun doing all these things my guy, are you going to do anything fun for the summer( brawl or non brawl related ❤️)

@stealthygamin @BrawlStars Thanks! Hopefully some travel and visiting family! :)

@martinTayx @BrawlStars I will try to guess the placeholders Meeple's super, piper's bullet as the middle shoot, gale's snowballs as the side shoots, and sandy's walk animation

@martinTayx @BrawlStars Me encanta saber cómo es el desarrollo de los nuevos personajes y espero que subas más del detrás de escenas 💖

@KuizzPotart @BrawlStars Lo voy a intentar!
