It’s called cultural vectors by colonial lingua fracas. Everyone will “suddenly” discover Chinese humanities output when they learn Chinese. Japanese and Korean cultural output is only noticed and “collected” because of cultural vectors formed from earlier periods of occupation.
(Also why whenever the “how come China doesn’t have globally prominent culture” topic is raised folks always seem to forget about HK cinema, because even though it’s Chinese it’s implicitly seen as a colonial product. Significant recognition is only allowed by colonial curation).
