The Latin language was consecrated at the Passion by its mystic inscription on the Cross. “From the first four centuries, no liturgy can be shown to be composed in any other language other than the three languages from the inscription on the Cross.” - (Gihr) The Body of Christ

Let’s be clear. The Catholic Church doesn’t teach that Latin has magical powers. But it does teach that words have real spiritual authority, especially when spoken by the Church with intent and sacred power. And Latin carries centuries of such authority.

The use of Latin in exorcism is not superstition, it is juridical and sacramental. Exorcism is not magic. It is a sacramental, a prayer of command authorized by the Church. And demons are legalists. They know what has authority, and what doesn’t.

In the 1962 Rituale Romanum, the structure is clear: >Begins with litanies and Psalms >Commands the demon by name (if revealed) Includes precise Latin formulas like: >“Adjuro te, spiritus immunde, per Deum omnipotentem...” (“I adjure you, unclean spirit, by Almighty God...”)

Does that mean exorcisms in vernacular languages don’t work? No. The Church permits it, and demons can still be expelled. But seasoned exorcists consistently report that Latin has a stronger effect, likely due to its sacred continuity and juridical force.
