Do you have a “SCOOPY” impact position with no shaft lean or compression? Inside this thread, I’ll show you a great drill to help you achieve the impact you see here, with your irons 🧵👇
A lot of golfers look like this at impact: - Shaft leaning backwards - Club head outracing the hands - No compression It leads to weak, inconsistent contact.
What we want is the opposite: - Hands leading the club head - Forward shaft lean - Compressed, penetrating ball flight This drill gives you that feel instantly.
Here’s what to do: - Take your normal grip with your lead hand only (left hand for right-handed players) - Remove the trail hand from the club completely - Now, make small swings with just the lead arm.
Your goal: - Make contact while keeping the hands ahead of the club head through impact. - This eliminates the tendency to flip and forces you to deliver the shaft with shaft lean.
You’ll feel a few key things: - The ball will come out lower - More solid, compressed strike - A real sense of “covering” the ball at impact This is what good players do.
Why does this work? Because with one arm, you physically can’t throw the club at the ball the same way. You have to rotate and control the club with your body and lead side. No more trail hand scooping at the ball.
After a few solid reps, put both hands back on the club. Do a few rehearsals slow and controlled feeling what you just trained with one arm, then hit a shot. If you do it right, you’ll see: - Forward shaft lean - More consistent contact - A lower, more compressed flight

Give it a go at the range this week. Start slow, focus on contact, and build it into your full swing. Your impact and your ball striking will thank you.
