Gaza Humanitarian Foundation says it distributed 1.8 million meals yesterday. Let's look at how Gazans were told about these distributions.
GHF says there were distributions at: 1. Saudi (SDS2) 2. Khan Younis (SDS3) 3. Wadi Gaza (SDS4)
The 10am openings of SDS2 and SDS3 were announced at 09.43 and 09.44am local time That's 16-17 minutes notice. There was no announcement for SDS4.
In those 16-17 minutes, Palestinians must get to the specified waiting points. These are located deep within IDF-declared combat zones, though the GHF never makes this clear.
At the official opening time (10.00am), Palestinians may travel the remaining distance. That's 1.2km for SDS2 and 1.4km for SDS3 - a roughly 20 minute walk, or 10 minutes if you run. But within 11 minutes of opening, the food had run out.
Distributing 13k boxes (SDS3) in 11 minutes means handing them out at a rate of 20 per second. This is clearly not an orderly distribution. UNRWA's Sam Rose described it to us as a "free for all"
And it's not unusual. GHF's sites typically close within 9 minutes of opening. And in 30% of cases, those openings are followed by reports of fatal shootings near the sites.
GHF has cast doubt on the connection between the shootings and its aid distributions. But we found that overall deaths in Gaza rise significantly on days with more GHF distributions.
