At some point we have to accept that OP has a point and those of us who stopped masking at some point, made an active decision to disregard the value of a certain number of human lives. I even felt it at the time, ~Fall 2022, that I knew it was wrong and just didn't care enough.
Posts like this point to the fact that not-masking carries the same implications it did at the height of the pandemic, prioritizing your own comfort and convenience over the lives of others. This is a symptom of the societal transformations that make fascism possible.
At some point we all played a numbers game. At some point we each engaged in some sort of calculus of human life, “well, now it’s just the immunocompromised and the elderly at risk, so it’s not as bad as it was before the vaccines rolled out—those people can be sacrificed.”
In some ways it’s even worse than the earliest anti-maskers—they didn’t believe the science behind masks anyway, so the decision to sacrifice other human lives for their own comfort was less conscious. For the rest of us, a real conscious decision had to be made.
And i imagine the most frequent answer libs and leftists will give you is that they stopped when X authority in their life said they no longer had to. What a relief for me in that moment, I had the excuse that some authority said it was okay now—that i was just following orders.
Okay i just want to be clear to everyone that I do not mask unless feel ill.
