literally none of the essential plot is paywalled. the main story & lore are fully accessible on yt/twt. Patreon content is BONUS material to support the creators who are giving us a fully animated series/music for FREE. this narrative is misleading & harms indie artists
patreon content gives insight into the vivimengs’ thought process, production decisions, nd commentary on what THEY chose to include or not. it doesn’t add lore, it contextualises what’s already there.
and even when some patreon or paid content might include extra details like the alien stage artbook, or behind-the-scenes interviews. but none of it contradicts/changes the core lore. it’s just bonus info that adds flavour, not essential plot
when you say “this is important narrative info” and imply it’s locked away, you’re misunderstanding what narrative is. narrative = what’s shown, what’s implied, and what the audience interprets. not what the creator explains afterward.
yes, patreon posts can deepen ur understanding, but that doesn’t make them necessary to comprehend the story. you’re not missing half the narrative; ure missing comfort or reassurance which isnt the same thing
stories like alien stage are meant to be interpreted. it doesn’t mean they’re incomplete, it means they trust the audience to connect the dots. everything vivimeng “explain” in patreon is already readable in the text, music, and visuals
saying “they could’ve just put it in the main story” dismisses the fact that they CHOSE not to. not everything needs to be explicit. ambiguity, symbolism & visual storytelling are all deliberate tools and a feature of this work not an oversight
and don't forget that patreon SHOULD be worth subscribing to. that’s the point…? expecting indie creators to give everything away for free and never use commentary as a perk to support their unpaid labour is incredibly unrealistic and unfair
this idea that artists are somehow doing harm by not explaining themselves enough…is wild. literally contradicts what art is all about. storytelling isn’t broken because you didn’t catch every detail. art isn’t a quiz that u fail bc u dont have access to an artists secret diary
the amount of “i’m not ungrateful, i just want xyz” tweets ive seen is actually insane, and the ppl who parrot this WHILE paying for ptrn are just inciting this entitlement by misrepresenting the nature of the content that is shared.
the irony is when y'all incite this type of discourse it ldiscourages creators from sharing anything at all beyond the base work. alien stage is one of the most generous indie projects out there. a full, high-quality animated series, original music, lore, visuals, for F R E E
so I beg yall to stop pushing this narrative that they’re “hiding lore” or making the story confusing on purpose. they’re building a world that invites rewatching, reflection, and depth. like just let art be art, i promise its gna be okay 😭🙏
TL;DR: the story isn’t paywalled. the lore isn’t missing. if you want more, support them. if you’re confused, revisit the material. interpretation is part of the process. not everything needs to be explained to be understood. its ok for people to have different opinions - its art
@naami25 As someone who paid for the Patreon you can't just... Lie lol 1. Vivimeng aren't alone, ALNST is done in collaboration with an entire professional studio. They're not broke and they're not doing this alone. 2. There *IS* essential character information hidden in Patreon.
@zumisbf i have also read the patreon posts. i haven’t lied, i just fundamentally disagree with ur framing of what counts as “essential.” yes, there are bonus insights into character backstories, anecdotes, or interviews that clarify intent; but they don’t contradict or alter the story
