@FFmpeg If I submitted a patch to VLC, how many years would it take to ship? ffmpeg is run incredibly well. I wish the same dedication was put into VLC. V4 has been needed for 5 years now, it’s becoming vaporware.
@theo You would never manage to submit a patch even close to replacing FFmpeg in VLC.
@FFmpeg You clearly have no idea how much of my history was in ffmpeg. I built a ton of early twitch infra on top of yall. I’m not talking out of my ass. I’m complaining that a valuable piece of software can’t even play a fucking video recorded on an iPhone because “v4 soon”
@theo Let us know where your FFmpeg patches are. There's a difference between being a "user of FFmpeg" and "developer of FFmpeg". The latter gives you the right to hot takes like "The built in ones are awful". That's because you have the actual skills to write replacements.

@theo We would love to see a copy of your maintenance contract and/or the full time members of staff working solely on FFmpeg. FFmpeg donations annually barely account for a fifth of an SV engineer.
@FFmpeg Sad to hear they didn't contribute more. I just donated $5,000. Hope you can learn to distinguish from some random hater and someone who appreciates ffmpeg, but is disappointed by the horrid state of vlc.
