Sesko is a 22yo Slovenian striker who has played 2 full seasons at Leipzig after his Salzburg rise. Already 251 senior appearances with 106 goals for club and country. Has made the Austria → Germany step seamlessly and kept improving.

He’s 6'4", rapid, explosive in transition, and has a Ronaldo-esque leap. His athletic profile is elite. Can be a box striker or run channels. A powerful, raw finisher with great technique at times. His ceiling? Extremely high. 🚀

He’s got the raw tools: pace, elite ball-striking, aerial dominance, solid dribbling, and flashes of hold-up play. At Leipzig, he plays beside Openda, drops deep often but can run beyond too. These traits suit Amorim’s striker demands well.

Compared to United’s options: he’s miles ahead aerially and in running channels vs Hojlund. Better hold-up too. Zirkzee has creativity but lacks Sesko’s box threat. Overall, Sesko offers a rare dual-profile: target man and runner.

Now comparing market options. Watkins (29) was too costly and already at his peak. Good PL scorer but lower ceiling. Sesko is the bet on potential. Younger, more dynamic. A better long-term investment despite higher variance.

United wanted Delap early, 30m was fair and stylistically he’s similar. Chelsea won that race. In many ways Sesko is the consolation but he might end up the better player if developed right. A rare blend of traits.

I filtered forwards in top 5 leagues with >80th percentile in aerials, dribbles, shots on target, npxG, passes received, and G+A. Only three names matched: Sesko, Semenyo, and Ekitike (who went to Liverpool for a similar price). 🧪

Now to Sesko's shotmap across 2 seasons. 115 shots → 27 goals. That’s a fantastic 23.5% conversion rate. He’s overperformed xG by 7.56. His shot volume is low but output is lethal. For context, Ekitike had 114 shots this season.

64 of those 115 shots came from low xG zones (0-0.1). Yet he converts 13.4% of these, with 5.65 of his xG overperformance from this band alone. So yes, he scores bangers. But he sometimes struggles with easier chances (something to coach).

Headers? Massive strength. 28 headers, 8 goals—28.6% conversion rate in the air. Uses his left too: 19 shots, 4 goals with weaker foot. Mbeumo and Bruno crosses will now have a real target. Adds a new aerial layer to United’s attack. ⚽

Only 2 of his 27 goals in this dataset are penalties so it’s clean output. He’s also a set-piece weapon. United have lacked set-piece threats for years. Sesko adds one more reliable target in dead-ball situations. Key improvement area.

His shot distance is sometimes wild. He takes shots from far, like 25m+. Think that Bayern rocket. But this can be coached as he needs to focus more on occupying the box. Right now, he drifts too deep too often and shoots from range.

Shot angle? He prefers central zones and scores mostly from those areas. Has a slight left-side bias (due to Leipzig’s formation) but overall is a central zone finisher. Finishing from tight angles is decent, but small sample size.

Interesting contrast between his 23/24 and 24/25 shotmaps. In 23/24, he stayed in the box, finished centrally. In 24/25, he drifted deeper and took more long shots. Reflects tactical shift but the box presence can return. 👀 @FPLfrasier talked about this in some of his posts.

One area United must improve: his shot volume. Only 4 games in 2 seasons where he took >3 shots. That’s just 7% of matches. Top strikers average 3 shots/90. This is coachable it's part tactical, part player decision-making.

15 of his 27 goals came in high-pressure moments (last 15 mins while trailing or drawing). A proper clutch gene. Feels like a United player already. Old Trafford will love the drama and timing of his goals. 🕒🔥

But he’s not perfect, still very raw. He misses sitters. One-v-ones, close-range finishes. Needs more finesse and decision-making. Can’t just be a power finisher, he has to add variation. A consistent trait across United’s strikers lately.

United as a team must help him too. Both Hojlund and Zirkzee had low shot volumes. United don’t create enough chances. That needs to change to get the best out of Sesko. His raw tools are there, but usage will matter.
