The more I think on Valve Deckard, the more I believe that Valve has to hit this new headset so out-of-the-park that it effectively forces a paradigm shift that Apple wished happened for their headset. The time to another headset will be too long

@carygolomb Do you think the rumors are true about it being viewed as more of a spatial computing device? Like a steam deck on your head sorta of thing. Because I'd genuinely be really interested in a headset, I can not only play vr games, but also flat screen games and do some cad work too
@edison_goff I'm not sure it will achieve the same level of performance as the Steam Deck as I think they are shooting for ultra low power and somewhere under 5w. But I do think they are going for spatial computing and a way to easily wirelessly tether to higher performance compute.
@carygolomb I keep wondering about the Half Life 3 rumors that have been swirling lately. Supposedly it’s close to completion. Is it going to target the Deckard and lose out on sales like HL: Alyx did, or is it going to wait for the Steam Deck 2? And where does that leave the current Steam
@carygolomb I don't think it can be done, honestly. For VR to take off it needs to 1) be cheap 2) be wireless 3) not be a stupid box stuck to your face Deckard will get 2 but not 1 & 3. Meta got 1 & 2 but not 3. Apple & Sony got nothing right. Everyone else copies but doesn't innovate 😕
@carygolomb I can't see it happening. VR is really cool but it takes way to much setup to be used for everyday gaming.
@carygolomb Have they actually made the optics work, rather than the not so good implementation they let Facebook use?
@carygolomb Its success won't be about the hardware, though. There's not that much more they can do on that front for a decent price, at this point. They'll need to do what Sony didn't for PSVR2, which is to release hardware-selling games. They need an Alyx x10.
