Rethinking Depression The pathophysiology of depression is far from settled, but a closer look makes it clear that it is not a problem of low serotonin. The “chemical imbalance” theory was always an untested, ad-hoc hypothesis—more marketing than science—and is now largely

@TakeThiamine I can only imagine how much time and effort it likely took you to put this together, and it’s completely free for anyone to read. What a gift.

@VitallyMelanie Thank you Melanie

@TakeThiamine What a write up. Crystal clear as always. Thanks a ton for taking the time to put this together. Will share it with whoever needs it.

@ProjectImpero Thanks man

@TakeThiamine What is your opinion on Wellbutrin or other dopamine agonists?

@metabolicwave Better than SSRIs but worse than most alternatives. Selegiline is a much better option if you’re going that route.

@TakeThiamine @commons_h @grok please summarize.

@TakeThiamine Interesting. How's caffeine's for treatment of MDD?

@basedsexologist It raises dopamine, norepinephrine, is neuroprotective, raises BMR, and supports the thyroid.

@TakeThiamine Do you know what might be causing social isolation? I get very nervous when someone tries to talk to me. I can't hold a steady conversation. I've been trying to solve this problem for months; it has improved a little, but it's still there. I didn't have these issues before.

@TakeThiamine Would you agree the best medicine for depressive types is a reform of lifestyle rather than chemical ingestion?

@Crypt_of_Troy Not to split hairs here but everything is chemical. But that’s what I’m getting at, yeah. Sometimes, people do need drugs, but not ones that increase serotonin. And they should only reach for the drugs after they’ve checked thyroid and exhausted all lifestyle/nutritional options.

@TakeThiamine you forgot to mention b12

@Dr_Apostrophe I think the entire B complex is necessary tbh. SAMe takes B12’s place in the list, it accomplishes what B12 would re: depression.

@TakeThiamine Jay, I was on Zoloft for about 20 years, I recently weened myself off (been about a year). Can your body recover once you stop? I feel better, but I don't sleep as well. Just wondering what your thoughts on coming off the SSRI's.

@rlcummings10 Yes. If it’s been a year and you’re mostly back to baseline, that’s a good sign you can get back to 100% with lifestyle factors and nutrition alone. Magnesium glycinate would be good. Look into some hormone replacement, progesterone or pregnenolone, if issues persist.

@TakeThiamine Seriously, thank you for putting this together.

@TakeThiamine Jordan Peterson and his family are experts on this. Mikhaila found out that they have a hereditary autoimmune condition that causes depression as a side effect. All she did was change her diet and she became a new person. Her podcast is excellent.

@TakeThiamine 100%. SSRIs 'work' sometimes the same any drug would work--because it changes things and shakes up your cycle. Same would be true for any psychoactive, anything that changes your thought patterns (thus away from your current, negative thought pattern.) They tested it against

@TakeThiamine Thank you for this. 🙏🏼🙏🏼💕💕

@TakeThiamine @wigger I have anhedonia, zero enjoyment of life & mimic social behaviour .. It came on in my mid to late 20’s after several SSRI’s & a long episode of untreated amoebic dysentery. It replicates benign psychopathy as you have memory of empathic behaviour. The MADD info is valuable, ty!

@TakeThiamine This is incredibly thoughtful and detailed Thank you
