The Vatican owns $15 billion in secret investments. - 5,000+ properties worldwide - Stocks in major corporations - Owns more land than entire countries. - Gold reserves at the Federal Reserve Here's how the world's biggest "charity" became a hedge fund: 🧵

It started with Mussolini's guilt money. 1929: The Vatican lost the Papal States to Italy decades earlier. Mussolini wanted to make peace with the Church. His solution? $90 million in cash and bonds. That payment became the seed money for everything that followed:

The Vatican hired Bernardino Nogara as their first fund manager. While other religious leaders preached poverty, Nogara was buying: - Italian banks - Insurance companies - Energy stocks - Chemical firms He treated the Vatican like a sovereign wealth fund.

By the 1960s, the strategy was working. The Vatican owned significant stakes in major Italian corporations. Real estate across Rome and beyond. But they had a problem: How do you explain massive wealth while preaching about helping the poor? Their solution?

Hide in plain sight. The Vatican lists priceless churches at €1 each in their books. The Sistine Chapel? €1. St. Peter's Basilica? €1. Artworks worth billions? €1. This makes their true wealth nearly impossible to calculate. Today, the numbers are staggering:

1. $10-15 billion in total investments. 2. $1.6 billion in Italian stocks alone. 3. Over 5,000 properties worldwide. 4. $50 million in gold reserves stored at the U.S. Federal Reserve. But the real estate empire is where things get interesting:

The Vatican doesn't just own churches. They own: - Luxury apartments in London. - Commercial buildings in Paris. - Office complexes in Geneva. Many are rented on the open market, generating tens of millions annually. Pure real estate investment strategy.

The Catholic Church globally owns 177 million acres. That makes them the largest non-governmental landowner on Earth. More land than most countries. Yet they pay no taxes on most of it due to religious exemptions. The ultimate tax shelter.

Their investment strategy has evolved too. No more "sin stocks", weapons, gambling, or tobacco. Instead, they focus on: - Green bonds - Socially responsible funds - Long-term stable investments 2023 performance?

$49.6 million in profit. Up sharply from previous years. Their stock and bond portfolio outperformed benchmarks. Real estate profits dipped slightly, but still generated $37 million. Not bad for a "charity."

The Vatican Bank itself manages €5.7 billion separately. After decades of scandals, they've beaten market benchmarks while cleaning up their reputation. They now require ethical screening for every investment. Modern portfolio theory meets ancient moral philosophy.

Recent scandals have forced even more transparency. A London luxury property deal went wrong, losing millions. Pope Francis cracked down on speculation. Now they publish more detailed financial reports. But many holdings remain hidden through third-party companies.

The irony is perfect. An institution that preaches about wealth being the root of evil has become one of the world's most sophisticated investors. They've survived empires, wars, and market crashes for 2,000 years. Maybe there's something to learn from their approach:

Diversification across: - Real estate (stable income) - Stocks (growth potential) - Bonds (steady returns) - Physical assets (inflation protection) Long-term thinking over short-term gains. And enough secrecy to avoid unwanted attention.

The Vatican proves that successful investing isn't about finding the next hot stock. It's about building systematic, diversified portfolios that compound over decades. While others chase trends, they focus on fundamentals. Here's how:

@LogWeaver All funded by generous Catholics who have the right to visit and worship in the churches they paid for.

@TerryinMiami I was in Vatican City in January and it is, by far, the most beautiful & impressive place I’ve ever traveled

@LogWeaver They need property to hide the pedos

@LogWeaver Now do Mormons

@LogWeaver great thread!

@LogWeaver Informative and interesting stories, thanks!

@LogWeaver They are also in league with the Rothschilds and the Chabad Jews and really run this Globalist movement.

@LogWeaver Wow, that’s a massive portfolio! Guess they know how to diversify. Quite the achievement for a charity, right?

@LogWeaver @ViralityEngine Christianity is for sale and loot and plunder. How could u amass such wealth

@LogWeaver 18.7 trl

@LogWeaver That’s all? There are thousands of individual people with more than that

@LogWeaver I mean that's interesting, but that still makes them one of the smallest of fries. The funds causing major world issues have hundreds of billions or trillions AUM. The Vatican doesn't even make it into that shark tank.

@LogWeaver While everyone is worried about “Mega Church Pastors”….it seems the Vatican and it’s Pope’s taught them everything they know.

@LogWeaver Not to mention that nuns have to beg for retirement funds from the public after a lifetime of service

@LogWeaver Sure........ they pay no taxes on most of it due to religious exemptions. The ultimate tax shelter.

@LogWeaver great. you only found 15 billion. we got a quarter trillion more that you missed

@LogWeaver True.. You'll shit if you do the same exercise w/ the LDS Mormons. The mega-church phenomenon is due to Capitalism - "You're either green and growing or ripe and rotting!" has saturated our societies.

@LogWeaver well thats the gold gone if the fed has it

@LogWeaver This is not news, really. The Church, both Catholic and Protestant, look after their own interests. Criminal, or financial interests are closely guarded secrets. Vatican City is a country, in its own right, so it makes its own laws.

@LogWeaver Plays the long game . . .
