A moving average smooths out price action to show you if momentum is building or fading. That means you can quickly spot the strongest altcoins to trade: -Building momentum → strong participation, great for longs -Fading momentum → weak participation, bad for longs
I use 3 MAs because each one tells me something unique about the trend: 1. Lower time frames: 7ma [Grey, thinnest], reacts the fastest, shows immediate market momentum 2. Medium time frames: 30ma [Blue, medium thickness], filters short-term noise, shows medium-term trend for
To trade altcoins using MAs, I have 2 triggers: A. Fanned out MAs This happens when the 7MA > 30MA > 100MA and the moving averages are fanned apart It means short-term traders are buying, swing traders are buying, and long-term participants are also holding. This is my trigger
B. MA Crossovers = Uptrend Weakness When the 7MA breaks under the 30MA in an uptrend, short-term momentum has flipped neutral or bearish. This is no longer a strong trend to stay long in and I start scaling out of positions, or at least take profits. If the 30MA drops below
Bonus: I also use MAs as a confirmation filter for breakout trades on altcoins. This allows me to avoid catching fakeouts, and only enter after a clear break of resistance is established. You can set a similar rule in your system, just test it with a journal before live
