asking why someone would bother drawing pregnant vegeta if grok can do it for them is like asking why this motherfucker doesn't just set up a sentry gun and watch from the chair it's called being alive
i think pulling on the pregnant vegeta slot machine is a human experience you can have, right, like you *can* do that but it won't be a scarce experience. it won't be singular. it will become dreadfully ordinary. you weren't built for passivity, you are a creature of passion
i can create holes in target paper given 5 seconds and a kebab skewer thats not impressive but the same holes, in the same paper, would mean something very different if turkish sharpshooter yusuf dikeç swiss-cheesed them from 40 paces back, wearing a costco perscription
if you personally went to a range, and absolutely fucked up every shot, that target paper will mean something different to you too. it'll be the day you had. there's a continuum of experience that matters
grok's pregant vegeta still has meaning; it just means you waited a few seconds for the image to generate but you can't wonder about its details, its author, or their intent, when all your questions have one answer maybe that's fine for some purposes- but it *is* different.
context matters! problem is, we're captured by platforms that INTENTIONALLY ERASE THAT CONTEXT, reducing everything to Sights and Sounds… which makes this feel intractable but we just have to cultivate those spaces purposefully now. locality matters. it's a whole conversation
the machine that generates infinite vegetas and holes in paper CAN exist - but its place is separate from the joy and pain you experience being alive in the process of creating those things yourself we mainly just need the vegeta printer to stop threatening people's food supply
@SamNChiet Images created by LLMs are the new clipart. I saw this recently. It’s fine if utility is all you care about. I’d prefer a human did it badly instead of a machine doing it badly, but the yacht club secretary wants to be out on the water, not sitting at a PC.
@SamNChiet "Oh but I can't draw/don't have the time to draw/don't have the tools to draw-" Commission an artist. Pay someone. Fuck it, pick up a pencil and draw stick men for an hour.
@SamNChiet @outstarwalker I’ve actively avoided anything to do with ai It looks too sharp, no indirectly and it’s becoming more obvious the more they utilize prompts for creativity
@SamNChiet EXACTLY! i commissioned some art ages ago and it still means so much to me, sure i could have used ai to make my friends make out passionately, but knowing i made a third friend draw it just adds to it.
@SamNChiet They have their values in the wrong places I feel like. For example valuing money and success way too much instead of just trying to enjoy life.
@SamNChiet this is so FUCKIN well said
