First, I need you to take a look at this video. This is Eddy Petion, the husband of Cynthia Petion pitching their company, AWS at a summit. Now, what he didn't mention is that it was all a GIANT scam.

Back in 2017, the couple claimed they owned several crypto mining facilities. They sold “cloud mining contracts” for as low as $40 and promised a 200% return. They also created a referral structure where you earn from bringing other people to invest.

Then came the twist. The Petions announced that their “mining facility” had caught fire, and because of this, they couldn’t pay out investors anymore. Thousands were left unable to withdraw their funds. You’d think that was the end but instead, they came back rebranded.

In 2019, they launched NovaTech FX. NovaTech FX presented itself as a crypto and forex trading hedge fund. Investors were told their money would be pooled, traded by expert bots, and would get weekly guaranteed returns. The idea was Cynthia's.

She claimed God showed her the vision while she was brushing in the bathroom. In no time, she branded herself the “Reverend CEO”. But this wasn’t just a rebrand. It was groundwork for a very specific audience Cynthia had in mind.

She set her sights on low-income Haitian families and immigrant church communities. She knew two things: 1. They trusted religious leaders. 2. They longed for financial freedom. So Cynthia recruited pastors, deacons, and church leaders to preach NovaTech.

Every pitch was wrapped in scripture. Jesus wasn’t just a savior, He was a marketing tool. “Jesus was the best affiliate marketer in the world,” she told them. By tapping into faith and the Christian urge to “share the good news,” she turned religion into a recruitment engine.

What started as a local church scheme soon exploded globally. Over 200k people poured money into NovaTech. In New York alone, there were 11,000 victims. Behind closed doors, Cynthia mocked them calling herself a zookeeper herding “mindless sheep who can’t think for themselves.”

By 2024, regulators had seen enough. The New York Attorney General charged them with running a $1 billion Ponzi scheme, one of the largest frauds in state history. But by then, the couple had sold their Florida property and fled to Panama where they live freely till date.

While the Petions were hiding in Panama, their investors were living a nightmare. Balances still showed millions on the NovaTech site but when people tried to withdraw, nothing came out. For many, their life savings were already gone.

Among the victims was a retired, disabled New York bus driver. He had invested his life savings, nearly $200,000. Money he thought would secure his future. Instead, it vanished into the Petions’ pockets.
